NCAA selects Indianapolis, five other cities for pilot program
Sep. 24, 2008
CBSSports.com wire reports

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA has selected Indianapolis and five other cities for a pilot program that will give them an opportunity to host multiple championship events through 2012.

The NCAA is based in Indianapolis, while the others selected for the new Championship City program are Cleveland, St. Louis, San Diego, San Antonio and Cary, N.C.

NCAA president Myles Brand said Wednesday the "bundling of events" would enable the NCAA and the cities to provide operational and economic benefits that individual championships couldn't provide on their own.

He says it will give the six cities increased leverage in long-term planning, scheduling and developing ancillary events.

Of course they would select Cleveland.

We have nothing else here to occupy our time than sports, oh...and the Orchestra. No jobs, horrible government and questionable weather.

But we know how to build pretty sports palaces for the pro teams and even Cleveland State. We may not have much money in this town, but we'll sure spend it on athletic endeavors.

Good job NCAA. We'll sell every freakin' event out!!!

Way to make lemons out of lemonade, MOR. You know, when someone offers you something that appears to be a plus, you might want to at least consider it, sir!

But you have the important thing.......THE LAKE.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Yep, you know me, Moose. That "half-empty" glass guy.

BTW. Congtrats on the White Sox win. That guy Jim Thome should have still been an Indian, if we had an owner who wasn't penny wise and dollar foolish.

Thanks, MOR, it was a heck of a play-in game, coming down to (1) the one pitch to Thome, (2) Pierzynski holding on to the ball, and (3) Anderson's diving grab for the last out. TBS couldn't ask for more.

Honestly, the W.Sox getting Thome didn't put them over the top in '06 or '07, and he's clearly winding down his career. I can't imagine that the Indians' fortunes would have changed much had they kept him.

I could be wrong, of course.

FYI, when Ozzie Guillen was asked after the game what he would call a book about this season, he replied "" 'How the Hell (Are) We in [Bleep] First Place?' ".

Cary is a regular home for the NCAA Div I soccer championship. Making it a permanent home would enhance that event, especially since two years ago they almost had to cancel it for snow when they tried to have it in St. Louis.

I didn't know Mike Brown was also the owners of the Indians.
