Patrick Ewing was fired as men’s basketball coach at Georgetown on Thursday after the latest in a series of rough seasons at the school he led to a national championship as a player in the 1980s.

I'm not sure if anyone wished for this but it was obviously necessary. He did not get the job done. This will likely make the Big East a much tougher conference. Hopefully the new coach has them winning consistently against good competition before league play but stagnates near the middle of the conference most years. They will need to be near the top some years to recruit at a high level but that is perfectly ok. Maybe X can be in rebuilding years at that time or elevated to the top of the conference.

Ewing and GT have been recruiting at a high level already. That probs Ky doesn’t change much no matter who they get as a coach…Pittino, Brey, ?, etc. What will probably improve is how well those recruits play as a team. But playing against the best is what every Xavier team should aspire to do. I ain’t skeered!
