Next Season
After yesterday's flogging I was thinking next season may be coming before any of us thought. It is hard to imagine any of this years starters coming back. That's over 7,000 points walking out the door at one time. Not to sure but I wonder if any college team ever had five 1,000 point scores on their team at one time? Losing Jones alone is like losing three good players at once. Of the players returning only Claude is special. I like Edwards and Craft but both need to make huge improvements over the summer. Hunter is Hunter . Good defender, rebounder and hustle guy. The freshman class will likely need a year to get use to college ball. Three of our incoming freshman are pretty light. Green is 5-10 155lbs, Swan is 6-6 170 lbs and Ducharme is 6-4 and 180 lbs. Nzeh is a Edwards clone. Strong but needs some work. I would think we would need at least two front court transfers that can score.. I just saw Amaree abram from Auburn ( 6foot 4) freshman guard is in the transfer mode. He would be a good pick up. I saw him play a couple games this year. Reminds me of Scrugg Nuts. Maybe Ducharme can be another Kunkel. Hope we play Friday.

Re: Next Season
I think this team may retain Hunter, but I trust Miller will bring in a blend of transfers/Juco to add to him, Claude, and an underrated Kraft. I don't think Edwards has the goods. Also, Swain is now 6'8" with a very good handle for a stretch four. Both he and Green have improved their ratings by double digits since their commitment. Ducharme is 6'6," as well. Nzeh was an under-the-radar guy and started hearing from big-time programs during the final weeks prior to committing to X. The freshmen will certainly have to contribute, but the program is in the hands of a proven program builder, who has already resurrected the program two years ahead of schedule. I wish this would be acknowledged more on this board.Kevin Reilly wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 2:06 pmAfter yesterday's flogging I was thinking next season may be coming before any of us thought. Don't get me wrong I believe in Miller 100%. I feel he is a top 5 coach in America and he loves Xavier. We are very lucky to have him back .I think it takes time for any freshman at any school to get use to college basketball. It will be interesting who Miller brings in this off season. Maybe a guy from overseas. Texas Tech has a big center in the transfer portal. Miller had quite a few overseas guys at Arizona his last couple of years. I like the freshman coming in next year. Just think they may need a year to be ready for the Big East.

Texas was a Top 75 Team until they got four studs in the portal in 21.'Kevin Reilly wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:35 pmDon't get me wrong I believe in Miller 100%. Re: Next Season
Miller will have to work some magic to replace the guys presumed to be leaving. Finishing 2nd in the Big East and getting a 3 seed in the tournament will help. Having a strong performance in the tournament would almost guarantee Miller will have quality players clamoring to play at X.
Getting the personnel is step 1. Fitting the pieces together, teaching the offense, etc. will all take time. Fans should expect a step back next year but as long as they bring effort and play within their abilities, it will be fun to watch them grow as the season goes on.
The good news is that this should be the last rebuilding year in awhile. X won't typically say goodbye to an entire starting roster. Miller will get the classes spaced out more appropriately and departures will be filled with a combination of guys stepping up and freshman stepping in.

Re: Next Season
If we have to rely on Edwards next year. He has the size but just doesn’t have the motor and skills to play at this level. I’ve sone Swan play and he will get minutes as well as Green. Look for Miller to add many this off season.

I’m not convinced that Freemantle won’t be back next year. But I also think that Sean will be active in the transfer portal towards bringing in at least one Big, possibly two, that have talent and experience against top competition. I don’t expect them to bring in bigs from lower level programs as much as I look for them to bring them in from top 6 conference schools.

Re: Next Season
Looking over the ON3 transfer portal and noticed they had assigned NIL market values to some players, and some are 6 figures—just another obstacle a coach must consider. For example, Skyy Clark ex-Illinois guard and former 5-star recruit has a Market Value of 186 thousand.
It looks like ND and Louisville guys are leaving their ships.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

It’s been an issue for many years but now it’s out in the open where everyone can see it.
