Good list. I'd add:

Bill Self
Shaka Smart
John Scheyer
FDU's coach
Kennesaw St's Coach

If Bennett gets fired, can we hire him as defensive coordinator? X may never lose another game. We would be the Globetrotters of CBB.

Interesting.
Let's start with Shaka...
Won the Big East
Won the Big East tournament
Won the first game in the NCAA easily.

Explain.

Oh,

I was just following your lead for the best WTF post of the day. As you opined that TB should be fired, I decided to take a gander at one of the top three coaches in cbb, whose teams usually have less talent than the top 40 teams year in and out. You put a different coach at VA, and they would struggle to get into the tourney year in and out. After elevating WSU from a horrible to a competitive program, he left for VA, where he inherited the worst UVA team since 1967, in arguably the toughest league in cbb over the past 14 years. Certainly the most top-heavy.

He is one of three coaches in history (with Dean Smith and Mike Krzyzewski) to lead his program to ten or more consecutive winning ACC records and is one of three coaches (also with Smith and Krzyzewski) to be named ACC Coach of the Year four or more times.[6].

He has had 4 straight 30 win seasons at some point in his career, in arguably the best league in cbb.

Bennett is a three-time recipient of the Henry Iba Award, two-time Naismith College Coach of the Year, and two-time AP Coach of the Year.

Bennett has been ranked the top defensive coach in college basketball by ESPN Insider and a CBS Sports poll of head coaches.

He holds or shares records for single-season wins and career-winning percentages at both Virginia and Washington State, with a career winning % of 75%, primarily in arguably the best league in cbb.

Oh, he also won the NC in 2019, with a freshman point guard who would not start in most of the top 100 teams in cbb. Pretty rarified air.

Shaka is a top 20 coach, along with our own coach, but if TB should be fired, I assume Shaka should be as well, no?

Check.

I am truly honored to have won the best WTF post of the day on here. That is saying a lot!

I will admit, my analysis was much more simplistic. I just went by seed. If you are a 1 seed and lose to a 16 seed...immediate fire. Doesn't matter what you have done in the past. TB has that distinction too as you well know.

As far as TB is concerned, until it can be proven he did not instruct his player to throw up a half court heave that directly led to UVA losing, yes...immediate fire.

That, and I am sure he did not deploy the correct defense on possession 34 that was just inexcusable. Should have been a zone.

This post is more of "in jest" or sarcastic post, as opposed to a WTF post.

I wanted to point out that it seems like other coaches can't always push the right buttons to get 18 - 25ish year old young men to perform well every single game.

It was sarcastic? I didn't realize that. I would have said "wittiest", and not WTF otherwise. Well done. I should have known with the insightful posts you've contributed previously.

Or maybe you're a snowflake, which is what I presumed when responding. It was obvious you took great umbrage to criticism that maybe SM should have played zone, which changed the momentum of the game resulting in a win btw, in a basketball game no less. Even if not, so what? Put up a rationale as to why it was wrong, or better yet, ignore it, instead of, being a snowflake. It's a message board. No one on here knows more about basketball than Miller you would probably say, and I'd agree, despite simultaneously guiding a boy's and girl's CYO bball teams to league titles. He's a top 20 coach, but I think his lack of changing defenses often hurts X. So what? He is still doing a top-10 job this year IMO. Who cares what I think?

Come to think of it, none of us could do a better job than the Refs, but they get ripped for incompetency all the time. Brian O'Connell in particular. Why is that? Yup, he misses calls, just like players miss assignments, and coaches employ wrong strategies. I don't know if you ever have criticized the Refs, because your posts are completely indistinguishable to me, unlike the always insightful ones from guys like edgecliff. Either way, if opposing views trigger you this much, put them on ignore. It's why I instituted this feature when becoming a Mod. That's what I would do.

Go X!

Good lord.
I think you are the one triggered by opposing views.
The proof....you put a feature on this board so you could ignore them.

Bennett seems to have regressed the last few years, taking losses to Ohio in 1st round, St Bonaventure in NIT, and this year Furman 1st round. Yeah, they had an NC, but the year before, they were the #1 seed and lost to UMBC by 20 points. Not a buzzer shot like yesterday, but 20 points. They might have peaked the year they won the national championship 2018-19 because they have done nothing ever since. That doesn't mean Bennett should be fired, but he may have worn out his welcome or feel like he might do better somewhere else.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

In NCAA BB Team Possessions per Game, Purdue is 340th and Virginia 360th out of the 363 teams. Right now X is 37th.

While being a slowdown team does not necessarily lead to upsets (Arizona is 23rd in possessions per game and Kansas is 69th), the game seems to be changing. More possessions per game, coupled with a solid Offensive Efficiency number, provides more margin for error.

Granted Coach Painter has Zach Edey and that plays a key role in the pace of Purdue’s offense. No criticism of Coach Bennet’s accomplishments either. The question is year in and year out, what may work in a specific Conference may no longer work in today’s NCAA Tournament. The similar underachievement of both Purdue and Virginia in recent Tournaments can’t be ignored.

Admittedly, those schools were in the Dance, while X was on the sideline. Thank goodness for the return of Coach Miller.
