Joe Gromada, RIP

Posted earlier today on Xavier hoops. Many views but no comments. I guess it is a younger crowd.

RIP former Xavier basketball player Dr. Joe Gromada
Sad news about former basketball player Joe Gromada having passed away recently after a distinguished career in medicine here in Cincinnati. He was a recruit of the Louisville program where he apparently still holds the Cardinal freshman scoring record. He transferred to Xavier where he was a pre-med major while also playing Musketeer hoops. I recall him as being a solid player on Xavier teams that were not nearly as good as current squads. Obviously, he exemplified the term "student-athlete".

Although his obituary doesn't mention it, he was spent time as an advisor for the Problem Pregnancy Center in Cincinnati. Truly, a man for others. Apparently, he succumbed to head and neck cancer as did his oldest son a decade ago, As a survivor of a recent head and neck cancer, it is a reminder of the fragility of life and also a pause to wonder how the Good Lord dispenses his blessings as we all bear our crosses.

May he rest in peace.

I remember him from X, although he was a couple of years ahead of me, I never really had much contact with him. I pray for his soul and for Karen and his family. May he be in the arms of his creator with Brandon and Henry. RIP
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
