Coach Miller

Postby Kevin Reilly » Sat Mar 25, 2023 12:59 pm

I am so glad we have a great coach again. The year we had was unbelievable. Sweet sixteen, Making the tournament...... top 15 school most of the year. A real pleasure to see Xavier playing basketball like we use too. To take that team that far without Freemantle for the last 5 weeks was amazing. That was a great coaching job .Next year is going to be so different. I can't wait. I think we moved the ball and shared the ball as well as anyone in college basketball. Our weakness was playing defense and getting physically pushed around a lot .Our guys gave everything they had but we were missing some grit. The Texas players were better than us this game and played very tough defense. But throwing elbows to the face and knocking us down all over the court and talking smack and laughing at us the whole game sucked. Hell Kunkel was the only one standing up for himself. We need a couple guys with some meat and attitude next year. I still believe Edwards can turn into a good ball player and hope Craft can step up next year too. I have seen Arizona play once this year and saw Kriisa play. He looked ok. Pretty good passer. I am hoping we bring in at least two big men who have size and can score .Claude and Edwards will make huge jumps next year. Great season guys and good luck with your futures.

I was looking at some guys in the Transfer portal who could possibly help us. There is a Australian guard from Cal Babtist who is about Jones size and with similar numbers. 11 points a game and 4.5 rebounds and 5 assists. Xavier is in the mix to get him. I also like a big center from Texas Tech Fardaws Aimaq . He was hurt last year but is good . I saw him get 18 rebounds against Kansas. He's 6 foot 11 and 245 lbs. Another guy who would be good is Khalif Battle from Rutgers. He scores 17 points a game and is a 6foot 5 inch guard. Not sure if we are after him. I also like Nicolas Timberlake from Towson. 17 points a game. Six foot 4 and physically strong. Be nice to get a couple of these guys

My bet Kerr Kriisa from Zona (see recruits and Transfer thread). Timberlake was supposed to have had a teleconference with Xavier
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I wonder if a certain athletic guard who committed career suicide by transferring to GA State would consider coming back 🤔.

I forgot to mention The Australian guard's name is Taran Armstrong. My bad. I know we need Bigs but most teams play at least 3 if not 4 guards at one time. As we saw this year we need depth. Injuries , playing time, losing the coaches confidence shortens the bench pretty fast. It sounds like Armstrong has a game pretty similar to Colby Jones. I'm sure Claude will start but who else is ready. Green is a 150 lb freshman. Ducharme or Swain? Hunter will at forward but who else. Tandy can't play in my opinion. Tandy is worse on defense than Boum. So Hunter, Claude, Krissa and who? I think we would take Armstrong or Timberlake or both in a heartbeat. Of course we need a couple of Bigs but we are losing 5 starters counting Freemantle.

don't think that wold happen. I'd like to see a number of players, but we don't know for sure which present players are leaving. When we do hear, I hope the replacements will make us just as excited as those who will be gone.

Hugley from Pitt and Duncomb from Indiana (Moeller HS in Cincinnati grad) are bigs that X tried to recruit before and have been contacted by X. Another big, Mack from Wofford has X in his top 10.

The Panthers' leading scorer and rebounder from two years ago John Hugley, a 6'9 junior from Cleveland, Ohio, averaged 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in the 2021-22 season. Inside the Panther said "he Pitt Panthers lost one of their most talented players to the transfer portal"

As long as he is content with 18 minutes a game, and will accept wearing a collar around his neck with sends a light shock if he shoots outside the lane. Great facilitator and defender though. We could have switched him O for D with Boum when he struggled defensively in games.
