Returning players

Postby Kevin Reilly » Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:06 pm

Any news on Freemantle or Nunge? I guess no news is good news. I wonder if their indecision is causing portal players to hesitate to commit to Xavier? Hoping to hear some good news this weekend on new recruits. I keep waiting to hear about some 7 foot Russian guy to save the day. We need about four portal guys who can play by my reckoning. I'm sure the coaches are working around the clock. Love to pick up Mcknight and the Australian kid Armstrong this weekend. The Big center Aimaq from Texas Tech would be great too. Go X

I think I would rather have this guy, if possible, Steve Ashworth, Guard averaged for 3 years almost 40% from the three, last year, it was 43.4% Plays 35 minutes, 16.2 ppg, 3.3 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game, and 45.8% FG% but he only shoots 87.8% from the Foul Line.

see his highlights https://youtu.be/AuMMZrGl2qE
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I agree MM about Ashworth, but are we even on his radar?

It is too early(less than a day) to know but I am keeping my eye on him. I think he would be a really good player after all his team barely lost to SDSU. He lost his coach so I think I understand his portal entry more than say a guy like Nembhard who was a person I really liked the first time I saw him but he is leaving a good team to go where?

X-lucidy there are so many guys X has contacted it is almost impossible to post everyone. I like it that Sean and his team has been mentioned by so many players but I bet it is tough not to get the guys you do have not to say, "hey, why are you brining in guys that play my position"

I hope with the dead period ending that we hear something soon...like I mentioned with Logan. On the other hand Sean is crafty enough to let some positions wait because others are expected in the portal.

I think it is good that Jerome, Zack and Jack have been quiet

Agree & thx MM. My take – Hunter returns, because why not enjoy this merry-go-round one more glorious season now that he has found his niche. The alternative is to get on with his life and enter the boring business world with the rest of us schmucks! As for Zach, unless a rift developed between he and his family and our staff, (which I would have zero clue of), I would say his options are limited. Zach can either come back for one more potential healthy season where he displays his skills as our leading post scorer. Or he recovers on his own dime and tries to cash in with a gig in Europe. I do not see a portal change of scenery being a wise roll of the dice with just one year of eligibility remaining, and having Zach need to learn a whole new system coming off an injury. So my hunch is both return, which helps us. I would say we need 4 total portal transfers or top foreign commitment. We have the 1st in Logan Duncomb. Logan can be a nice rotational post with upside. My take on remaining needs would be:
- PG. someone like Ashworth would be perfect for Sean’s system.
- SG. A combo 2/3 type that can score but not a donut on D
- Post. A talented post player more proven than Duncomb.
Yes, you risk yanking off your incoming class a bit. But I have watched highlights of Trey Green and although extremely talented, he is a bit raw. Des is not a huge outside scoring threat. Plus we will be extremely thin in the post. Now that is a rather dream-like wish list, but this is the new climate. I do not believe we need to hit a homerun with each portal signing, but maybe A- solid proven players could elevate us to a top 15 contender. Can’t hurt to aim high.

I would like to get Ashworth but I think that is a longshot. I read his family went to BYU and his wife was a cheerleader there. I read BYU, Utah and Duke are the top three schools. I believe he is Mormon.

I saw an Instagram clip with Zack, Des, and Kam passing the ball around. Maybe that is Zack's way of saying he is part of the team still.
