Re: Big Guy time
I would say we stand pat for a moment now unless the staff already knows Free is definitely not returning. So unless Ingram from Stanford is interested in X, (which I would pounce on), my hunch is Sean will save that last scholly for the time being. Once again, this ONLY applies if Zach F. has let them know he is leaning toward a return. You don't want to develop a rap for constantly recruiting over your incoming Freshman. That would be used against you down the road. It's a tough fine line to walk in this new era. I feel the staff has now perfectly utilized the portal system to fill our gaps with proven experienced above avg talent. Taran Armstrong is still being mentioned by posters, folks there is no way he still has X on his short list now that we have inked McNight. Keep our powder dry with the last one we have in our back pocket. I like the the ingredients we now have going into the summer. Fab job to Coach Miller and staff

X-Lucidity, I strongly agree with you. I think Coach Miller and Staff have done a masterful job of navigating the Portal to bring in a proven set of players who will have the honor of representing Xavier University. While I'm at it, cheers for our AD and our outstanding President!

well you might stand pat but Sean is still active including a transfer player on campus today. I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

X-luc,X-lucidity wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 2:21 pmI am now officially on Cloud-9… Welcome Abou! I must say Xavier Nation, this was the final piece of the puzzle I was rooting for. I admit I have been a bit obsessed lately and have been watching tons of clips of Abou, Ike & Shedrick. All three would have been fab, but Shedrick does not have Abou’s untapped upside and was looking like a well under 50% chance to land him. Ike a week ago would have been tops with 3 yrs left but looking like he is now leaning Gonzaga and staying out West. Honestly I see Abou as having the potential to reach Ike’s level with some coaching and a bit more upper body strength. After Abou, it seemed there was a huge drop off in true low post portal talent. In other words, I think the staff made a beautiful call here with this talented young man who is just starting to blossom. Taking the bird-in-hand and making sure we got one of these top three centers. Watching his tape he seems to enjoy playing the game and is a willing and skilled passer when doubled or cut off. He is long and extremely quick and athletic. His D is already above average and his offensive game seems to be rapidly catching up. We have no word on Free yet, but this signing should excite him as Abou would seem the perfect compliment to Zach’s skills. Just pumped beyond belief, three of the top players from an underrated CSUA. Welcome to the Big East young men. I do believe the B’East as a solid chance to be the best league in the nation next season. Strap on those helmets boyz this is gonna be fun..
I'm not on Cloud 9, but am on the 14th floor of a high rise. He is a solid pick-up, as he is a traditional physical, big, and is a good defender with the range of CJ Anderson. Good shot changer as well. He strikes me more as an athletic Jason Love.
However, he is no Shedrick, who will be in the NBA the year after next. I do agree he is a perfect complement to our defensively challenged scoring machine, who may be on the team next year, though I am not convinced it is a certainty.

I hope this isn't a sign that Cam may be exploring options, but this guy is a high-level shooter, eerily similar to Kunkel. I hope X gets him.muskieman wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:13 pmwell you might stand pat but Sean is still active including a transfer player on campus today. Re: Big Guy time
Well AH I certainly agree, Shedrick would have been a better "get" My post earlier was trying to express it seemed the tea leaves were trending towards Shedrick either remaining at VA or, if not, Duke had emerged as a potential front-runner. Ike likely %'s seemed to be fading a a bit as well. Sometimes a bird in hand is... well you. Only the staff knows exactly how this played out. I have no clue, only speculating. However, I like Abou's tape apparently more than most here. His post D seems stellar already. He is strong and not easy to back down. I believe our staff will also help his O blossom. He was here on campus and maybe the fear was, if we pass on him now, does his interest in X cool and we wind up missing all three.? As for my thoughts on standing pat now, (unless a super A++ stud talent was interested), I still believe this. But I am not in charge and trust SM implicitly. I also would hope Free has had a serious sit down with Coach and has expressed his likely decision so that we can proceed accordingly. If Zach is going to depart, then hell yes we need more offensive firepower. Once again, my earlier post was my take, sort of putting myself on the staff's shoes. Fun to speculate. No matter what, I believe we all can agree that a) so far so good. & b) we are in good hands with this staff in place.
Finally, maybe MM can shed light on this new recruit on campus. I for one cannot come close to reading that language... LOL.

Re: Big Guy time
Isn’t the kid from Virginia still scheduled to visit this weekend? If he’s still coming it would indicate that he’s still interested and that X is still interested in him.

I like this pickup. X's interior D, against physical bigs, was bad last year, making it a bad combination since the guards couldn't defend very well either. Abou is reputedly a good defender and shot changer-blocker. X won't be raining threes at a high clip next year but will have more balance, with decent, not great 3-point shooting, and better drivers. However, if the guy on campus today commits, Kunkel-clone, 3-point shooting will be enhanced. Craft and Green are great shooters as well.

Re: Big Guy time
Hopefully,
But now it's a crowded frontcourt, so the small odds of him picking X over Duke just diminished. I agree with X-Luc: A bird in the hand......
