The Athletic Pulse has an article this morning by Max Olson mostly about the Colorado move to the Big 12 and who might be next. The thinking is that the new commissioner, who is a businessman from NY who has "more events in MSG" on his mind among other things, has his sights on one or two more from the Pac 12 (think AZ or AZ State or both), but is very high on U Conn and has had discussions with them. The Big 12 schools are not necessarily sold on U Conn but the Commish is. He also wants to decouple the basketball tv deal from the football tv deal and negotiate separately for them. For right not Colorado will get $31 million per year from TV for football, basketball and all other sports.
For X, we would likely not ever be invited to the Big 12 with UC there. But it appears the Big 12 might go for more than just U Conn on the basketball side in the future. Stay Tuned!

Re: UConn on their mind
I think X would be more attractive to a conference like the B12 because they dont need to jam a sub-par football program into the Power 5 but your point on UC is accurate. UConn will want their football program to be part of the deal. However, maybe they get less than partial share cut. I get their desire to salvage football. They have to take another crack at it but this needs to be the last time we let UCONN back to the BE of they leave. B12, having lost Oklahoma and Texas, is still a hodge podge of schools. UCONN needs to be careful.olsingledigit wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 11:13 amThe Athletic Pulse has an article this morning by Max Olson mostly about the Colorado move to the Big 12 and who might be next. Yes. They're already accepting a subpar football program with a high school stadium 4 miles away from X. That hurts to admit this as a closeted UCat's fan.Jesseandrippers wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 1:41 pmI think X would be more attractive to a conference like the B12 because they dont need to jam a sub-par football program into the Power 5 but your point on UC is accurate. Re: UConn on their mind
UConn needs to decide are they about Division 1 Football or a Basketball school. UConn is very good in mens basketball, but very bad in mens football. The big money revenue is in mens football. However, I do not ever see UConn as being a major high rated football school. There will soon just be 4 major Division One Conferences: ACC, B10, SEC, and Big12. The Pac 12 is basically dead. All other college division one football programs will be obsolete and low rated for TV football revenues. UConn should drop football and focus on basketball. But my guess is they will first see if any of the big boys football conferences will accept them. A recent article said Pac 12 schools were getting about 20 million each from tv but by joining the B10 they can get over 60 million each a year from tv revenues.

Just realized the Big 12 accepted a tv deal about half per year of the other Power conferences

Re: UConn on their mind
If you’re comparing the B10 and SEC contracts to the B12…then yes. 1/2 or less. But still MUCH BETTER than anyone else’s outside the ACC.olsingledigit wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 3:08 pmJust realized the Big 12 accepted a tv deal about half per year of the other Power conferences
However, the key isn’t always how much money one makes. Often it is just as important how someone spends the money they have. Obviously the SEC and B10 schools have much more money coming in than anyone else, but they also tend to spend millions more than the other schools. If the B12 schools are smart, they will adjust theirs pending accordingly. If they do that, if they limit their spending to what they need, if they fund their programs within the limits in income that they have, they will be just fine. They will be able to put competitive teams on the fields and on the courts that will be able to compete. On the other hand, if they try to compete by spending money they don’t have and aren’t likely to get, they will only get themselves into trouble.

There was talk that some people wanted to re start football at Xavier. I think that would be a big financial mistake. Football at X could never compete in today's college football world.

Against the competition that it would be designed to compete against……yes it could. NOBODY is under the assumption that Xavier would compete against D1 full-scholarship schools. They would be competing with NON-scholarship programs.Xavier2005 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 8:40 amThere was talk that some people wanted to re start football at Xavier. 70% of the schools playing college football are NOT members of any of the large conferences. In Ohio alone there are 28 colleges with football teams, but only 8 of them are even D1 schools. Of those 8, 6 are MAC schools and the others are OSU and UC. Xavier would be set up to play, and compete, with schools of similar emphasis and investment.

Agree with Kyzrex. I believe this has been explained in several threads already but it would be non-scholarship football in likely the same league that Dayton and Butler play in.kyzrex wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 1:05 pmAgainst the competition that it would be designed to compete against……yes it could.
