As was exposed on the ND scrimmage we are going to get pushed around quite a bit inside. Our lack of size and depth insdie could keep in bottom half of Big East.

Desmond Claude is far and away the best player on this team. This team needed a number one option and he stepped up big time, playing confidently by driving to the basket and finishing with contact, while also being able to shoot from the outside. He’ll be huge this year.

Lazar Djokovic’s ceiling is an All-Big East type player. Most thought going into the year Dayvion McKnight would be the player to draw the most fouls on the team, but don’t sleep on Lazar. His quickness along with his height allowed him to drive to the basket with ease.

Dayvion McKnight has already carved out a role on this team. He clearly isn’t going to be our first, second or even third scoring option. But, he did most of the facilitating that led to some easy scores for the team. Pass first guy, which may be perfect for this team.

Quincy OIivari may not be ready for high level division play. It’s obviously extremely early, but he just looked lost out there if we’re being honest. 0-3 from the field. ND’s defense was clearly throwing things at him that he wasn’t ready for. Hopefully he can bounce back.

Again, it’s early, but I think Trey Green will be Xavier’s second best player. Played as maturely as any freshman I’ve ever seen. Facilitated extremely well, was able to drive and had some gorgeous reverse layups. Can’t even begin to talk about his shooting. My goodness.

Abou Ousmane will need to step up if this team wants to go anywhere. He had his moments, but overall his play was pretty disappointing. His interior defense was lackluster at best, And was careless with the ball. When Abou was on, the whole offense flowed well.

Daylin Swain’s defense might be his best feature. He didn’t get as many minutes as Des and Trey, but when he was in he was active on the defense end, probably our most enthusiastic defender on the floor, he showcased his ability to score too, going 3-3, but his defense impressed.

Sasa Ciani is easily the most underrated piece on the team. He showed up in Mid Sept, but has already built his own here. His inexperience at the D1 level was definitely shown, getting dominated a few times in the post, but he found himself wide open a few times for easy layups.

Guys like Kachi Nzeh and Gytis Nemeiksa played a bit, but not enough for me to properly give a verdict on. Two players didn’t get on the floor, Kam Craft and Reid Ducharme. Not sure why kam didn’t get minutes. Reid’s absence is understandable.

Word is that Craft was hurt.

Trey Green is going to be Tu-level great in college. It's good to see Swain be productive offensively, because he has consistently been lauded for his D since coming on campus. McKnight and Olivari have had a start time adjusting, so who knows how this year is going to go, but I am going to have a lot of fun watching the young ones develop. Losing three post players due to injury means X comes into this season undersized, with about 10% of scoring from last year, in the best conference in the country. With 98% of coaches, you might as well raise the white flag. With Miller, they have a chance.

He took a NIT team to a 3 seed, and SW 16 last year. Top 5 coaching job. Tremendous coaching acumen and great integrity. Thank you, Greg Christopher.

We will need Olivari to step up this season since he is our best shooter (besides Green). Nice to see Lazar and Ciani provide some scoring and valuable minutes. Thanks goodness we have Sean Miller.

Was this scrimmage at the Cintas Center? Our next one is versus Akron, I believe. Home or away?

Are these scrimmages treated exactly like a real game or are there stoppages and teaching moments? Do the teams try out Different defenses per the requests of the coaches.

Although winning is important, is learning and/or teaching the goal?

I would also think that being early in the year, there would have been no scouting reports or individual player preparations. Coaches would be ‘coaching on the fly.”

By the way, what does Notre Dame have this year? Any super stars? What is their style without Brey? Where are predicted to land in their conference?

ND is considered inexperienced, and at this point, scouts are saying a down year. Remember X got beat by 20 or more last year against Vandy.

R-E-L-A-X.... This will be a long and beautiful process. Miller took over a program in distress and descending last year. He restored the roar. But did so using a lineup of many Seniors. So obviously we were going to lose those three to graduation. Then we unexpectedly lose two of the other three from the top 7 man rotation. Hopefully everyone understands we have only one of our top seven from last season. To the basketball purist, and I would like to consider myself one of those, this is going to be both fascinating and highly entertaining watching Coach Miller and staff mold and shape this talented, but VERY young and inexperienced group. We should all expect and even appreciate some early growing pains. I am hearing reviews and reading accounts of scrimmages and practices to feel pretty good about 8 to 9 players already. (Quincy was one of those early and I believe he will still be just fine). I do not believe our ceiling this season is top four in the BE, but top 7 and a berth in the dance? Yes. And if we are peaking in late Feb, then we just might be able to make a little noise again come tourney time. 6 true Frosh - you have to respect the process and the foundation being laid..
