Postby muskieman » Fri Feb 02, 2024 8:56 pm

SATURDAY, FEB. 3, 2024 AT 9:30 P.M. ET (8:30 CT)
WINTRUST ARENA IN CHICAGO, ILL.

Television: FS1 with play-by-play from Chris Vosters and analysis from Dickey Simpkins.
Xavier Radio: 700 WLW-AM Joe will have a new analysis for this game Steve Wolf

Forget the Blue Demons record and play them like they are ahead of us in the standings ... no trap games this season guys. Last year we let them get a home win by one point but it cannot happen this year or the Muskies will have dug a big hole

Guard Caleb Murphy will miss the remainder of the season and pursue a medical redshirt, as announced on Friday, Feb. 2. Murphy appeared in eight games this season, with one appearance since Dec. 6 due to a wrist injury. Tony Stubblefield was relieved of his duties as head coach on Jan 22, 2024. Matt Brady is the interm head coach
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Shooting and missing a lot of threes except for Olivari. Sloppy game by both teams. Bigs have been invisible.

Olivari was outstanding. He has 18 points and 6 rebounds. This is a game that Nezh should get some time. I think he would play very well vs DePaul. DePaul has 13 turnovers. We should be blowing them out.

We haVE ATTEMPTED 28 THREE POINTERS. Way to many. Besides Olivari not a very good effort . Need to clean up a lot of things. Moving and sharing the ball is #1.

Olivari with the game of the year for us. We have 9 games left. I think we have to win 7 of them to make the tournament or win six and than 2 games in the Big east tournament. Go X

Olivari was amazing. He took a few questionable shots but only the 1 he got pulled for was an issue given how well he was shooting. He rebounded and defended well.

Not sure what would have happened without Olivari but guessing it would have been much closer.

The freshman big that people have ragged on a number of times this year played very well. Rebounding, blocking shots, hitting a 3 and converting at the rim. He is the most talented big man on the team. Ousmane is more productive at this stage but Djokovic has big upside. He has been unproductive in a number of games but makes few mistakes. He has athleticism and can shoot. He deserves minutes but should be monitored closely like most of the freshmen. He was the best freshman player on the court this game.

Time to focus on extending the win streak. X needs 2 more.

VERY nice to see Lazar contribute, smile a few times on the court, and especially play some effective post D. He must have earned that PT in practice which is also encouraging. A long way to go, but attitude and effort in practice is the key for his continued development.
Abou really needs to get his act together if we are to make a run to get on the right side of the bubble. Still committing about two really silly and sloppy fouls a gm that result from poor technique and a lack of focus. Plus, on Offense, he forces the action a bit down low. I am fine if he has good positioning, but he rarely passes the ball back out if he gets a pass to the post. Even if a double team comes over. Dante needs to have him watch a few hours of glorious Stainbrook highlights!
Trey really needs to get stronger with the ball. But he is a Frosh so cutting him some slack. Dailyn and Gytis need to stay after each practice and shoot about 500 threes each every day. Maybe they already do and God bless them. But folks, we need more than our big 3 to step up and provide scoring threats. As great teams will easily be able to defend us.
Nice win. Avoided a pothole. Now all eyes are on holding serve Wed eve.

X-lucidity don' forget about Claude working on his three pointers. Claude is shooting 22% from the three point line and most are not close. Green has a long way to go on his defense. His man either blows by him off the dribble or just goes right thru him. I liked the way Miller was sending up two bigs to screen for Green at the top of the key at the end of the game. That's what Green needs to get a clean look. However when you have two bigs 20 feet from the basket you are not going to get many offensive rebounds. I also liked how Miller pulled Olivari after his 35 foot three point attempt. Nemeiksa by the way is shooting 39% from the three point line. Second best on the team. It was nice to see Djokovic have some success. Still wish Nzeh would get some time. With Covid and the transfer rules I'm not sure about McKnight, Ousmane and Nemeiksa eligibibity? Are they all gone? Also I don't see Craft or Ducharme coming back.
