The 500k is intriguing. Guaranteed money in a significant amount would be difficult to pass on. That money however could land him in a spot that decreases his chances of playing in the NBA. He could probably play overseas so maybe the cash would be worth it. Depends on what is important to him, what he thinks he can achieve and if he thinks the other school presents a similar opportunity to excel or not.

That is certainly more $ than I was thinking he would get so the amount can change the analysis. Would that be 500k per year? 1M before tax while in school would be worth it in most situations. Invest it wisely. Play a few years professional ball and retire. Most would go broke if they did that but 2M invested should be enough to support a reasonable lifestyle.
