Roster for next season?

Postby MarionHall4ever » Tue May 14, 2024 5:51 pm

Greetings and salutations to all my Musketeer Brothers (and Sisters) on this Chatboard.

It's been so long since I posted anything that I'm feeling a little like The Prodigal Son (I could neither remember my Password nor find where I had committed it to paper, but I finally have it again). I have been periodically checking in as a "Visitor" the last couple years and it feels good to be able to have a seat at the table again.

Since I became a proud retired "Snowbird" (who migrates to The Valley of The Sun in Arizona in the cold weather months) a couple years ago, you guys have been my primary source of XU Hoops info. And I thank all of you for that. I can occasionally catch a live game on a streaming app (IPad screen) or on the local Fox station, but it's not as good as watching on the cable in Ohio. [Although, truth be told, this last season's frustrations were primarily of the "on the court" variety.]

And that brings me to my point: last year's roster appears to have become a distant memory. From what I can tell, Swain is the only player returning who played any significant minutes last season. I'm as hopeful as the rest of you that "Free" and Hunter will be healthy enough to join him and provide an infusion of talent / experience / leadership. But is anyone else returning?

Can somebody please post an updated list of the players (mostly transfers, apparently) who will make up our roster next season. Thanks . . . and GO MUSKIES!

Hi Marion Hall. What years did you live there? I was there in the early fifties of the last century.

Returning players bolded:

Guards/wings:

McKnight
Green
Swain
Colbert***

Foster
Maddox
Conwell
Anderson (the sole major miss-fire, IMO, among an otherwise stellar class. His numbers are more fitting of the 8th player on a Xavier MCC team).
Fletcher (3/4)

4s & 5s:
Hugley
Freemantle
Hunter

Traore

Best surprise: Green returned. Headscratcher: Anderson. Min: 26/gm; Pts 7/gm; A/TO 1:1, AS A GUARD! FG% 36 Ft% 55 3p % 28. I am assuming his younger brother is a future McDonald's All-American.

After spending Freshman year (72-73) in Kuhlman Hall (where I vaguely remember a fun-loving and out-going curly-haired guy from D.C. by the name of Kevin Reilly), I spent Sophomore (73-74) and Junior (74-75) years at Marion Hall. After Junior year, five of us moved from Marion to Ratterman House.

I worked in Pogue’s basement with Kevin, and played pickup ball at Friar’s Club with him. His favorite phrase was “that’s outrageous!”

Thanks Anti-Homer. I'm very happy to see that Green and McKnight will be back. I thought I had read somewhere that Green was probably headed to the portal (sometimes it's good to be wrong) and I didn't think McKnight had any eligibility remaining. I'm not familiar with Colbert, though. I didn't get to see many late season games last season. Did he get to play much?

Marion Hall4ever. You can watch the Xavier games if you get the Big East package on cable. It's not too bad pricewise. As the great John Pluto Butarsky said never let your studies get in the way of your education .

Gym from Deli I remember Pogue's . Very decorated crew we had. Outrageous is still one of my favorite expressions. LOL As far as pick up basketball I could foul with the best of them.

Anti-Homer I think Anderson may surprise everybody. Might be a good defensive player who brings other things to the court besides scoring. Looks like we have enough scores and could use a hard nose all around team player. I have high hopes for him.

Kevin, there was another guy from XQ that worked at Pogues with us and also played ball at the Friars. His name was Tom with reddish blonde hair. He was from Detroit.
