Xavier is solid at PG with McKnight and Green.
Maddox, Conwell, Fletcher, most likely at 2 and 3, with Swain getting some minutes at 3 and 4, maybe even starting minutes,
But if Zach, Rome, Hugley, and Traore are all playing solid, will Swain also get minutes at the 4? We need to play Swain this year for as many minutes as possible, as we played Des.
I hear Swain has been a stud, and some are claiming he would be in the top 15 of the draft.
In open practice, there has been a lineup of McKnight, Maddox, Conwell, Swain, and Freemantle. That group is small, but man, could it be a scoring machine! Might we see a lineup of Maddox, Conwell, Swain, Freemantle, Hugley or Traore if we need a big boy lineup. I have not even mentioned Rome in those lineups, but I am counting on him as a sixth man, along with Fletcher
Last year, we thought we had great talent, but I think this year, we have more proven talent. We don't have Quincy, but Conwell is no slouch, and his made-there-point number was better than Quincy's.
I have heard rumors that Swain may have grown a little since last year.
Lastly, with all the positives, this team has a lot of question marks, so Sean has to be at his best
I would like to hear some other fans ideas

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Don’t forget Marcus Foster. I think he will be a defensive asset guarding 2s and 3s and smaller 4s. He’s a good shooter and rebounder and can get to the rim. Defensive matchups will get him playing time.
We will be very deep. I think it’s a team that will value winning highly, more than showcasing of individuals, and I think Sean Miller will have a good challenge of distributing playing time and adjusting multiple possible lineups to the challenges brought by different opponents.
If the team stays pretty healthy, I think it will be very good.

MM I would say we thought we had talent last year but it turns out we didn’t, proven by where the majority of transfers out ended up. IMO Conwell could end up as a huge star. I watched him play at IN State against quality talent. The big kid at IN State got the headlines but Conwell was the star.
I trust in Sean, so let’s pray for no injuries and no primadonnas.

This (McKnight, Maddox, Conwell, Swain, and Freemantle) is the lineup I envisioned starting a month ago, and think 9, possibly 10 guys will play at least 8 minutes a game. X has a lot of options and can play many different styles. Few can manage this better than Miller. I just hope he doesn't get cute this year and play Brad C meaningful minutes. It cost them the Butler game. I may go to the Dayton game. Mman, I may need you to play bodyguard since your hands are registered as lethal weapons, and an X Mod like myself will draw a lot of haters.muskieman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 7:56 pmXavier is solid at PG with McKnight and Green.

Muskieman... First off I hope you are well. I for one don't see Swain starting. If he did we would have the smallest team in the Big East. As far as Swain being a top 15 player someone see's a lot more in him than I do. Swain had zero impact on the offensive end. I think Conwell, McKnight, Maddox and Freemantle start and none of them are know for their defense. Maybe Traore or Hugley or even Hunter TO HAVE SOME CHANCE OF GETTING A REBOUND. I WOULD HAVE SWAIN COMING OFF THE BENCH BUT GETTING 20 PLUS MINUTES A GAME.

Re: With the talent WHO PLAYS WHERE AND HOW MUCH
I have no insight on anyone's development in the off season but it is not uncommon for freshmen to make a big jump. Swain was a big presence last year but was certainly limited offensively. Hopefully he has improved offensively but even if he hasn't, he will still be a key contributor.
Mcknight might not be tall but he has long arms.
I suspect Free will get minutes at the 5 and Swain will play some 4. The 2 will get a majority of their minutes at whatever position is lacking sufficient depth or talent. Matchups should also play a factor as some have already mentioned. Ideally Free can mostly play 4. Not sure it matters much if Swain is splitting time between 3 and 4 other than significant minutes at 4 might mean the true centers are underperforming or Free is not back to old form.
The team has a lot of potential and on paper seems it could be very deep. In reality it may be much more shallow if some are not as expected or if others are simply playing at too high a level to rest them. It would be great to have a few dominant players with a deep bench of good players but as long as the team develops chemistry and works together, it should be a fun year with a lot of victories.

Re: With the talent WHO PLAYS WHERE AND HOW MUCH
I keep thinking about Zach and his past injuries. I think maybe he was playing too many minutes. I know a player needs more time, not less, but if Sean can play Zach for fewer minutes each game, maybe Zach won't wear out. Rome is only an inch smaller and, by the record, maybe 10 lbs less, but if Rome and Free can give us the same level, they both can be fresh and less likely to find another injury. Change my mind!

Due to his injuries, this will likely be the high water mark of his career. Hope I am wrong. I say play him as much as he and his body tolerate, especially later in the year. He will need a nice year to be able to continue playing ball post X.muskieman wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 3:11 pmI keep thinking about Zach and his past injuries. Mark it down, Zach will be X's MVP this year. X has great depth, including in the post, so I'd love Zach's minutes to be 26-30 min a game range, as opposed to 34- 38, which guys like Claude, Olivari, and MckNight were forced to play.
