RIP Ice Man Tom

Thomas E. Sedler, who passed at age 92, on July 30th will be remembered for his tremendous support of Xavier, his investment in students, and his unwavering dedication to the men’s basketball team, where he sponsored the Sedler family Head Coach starting a few years ago so X could be competitive paying our head coach in the marketplace.

Tom's Home City Ice was always a fixture at home with giveaways and sponsoring, and at away games, Tom exhibited his very tasty brownie, which he offered to many of his fellow fans throughout the years. When he would arrive with a tin, you knew that the brownies would be available for the ride-along.

Personally, I was most honored to be in the company of what I called the two Toms, Sedler and Siemers, who were always a treasure trove of Xavier History, and the people who treated even the lower-tiered guys like me, as equals, as we would have a late-night meal after a win on the road. I miss both, and my bet is the Two Toms will be tipping a few basketballs in and off the rims this year. It is a shame X could not have sent them to a final four because both men really deserved to see the success after all they did for the school and the basketball program.

GOD bless you, Tom Sedler, and know you will be missed.

Visitation will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7 at Bellarmine Chapel, with a mass to follow.

Following the mass, a Celebration of Life will be held at James and Caroline Duff Banquet Center, located inside Cintas Center.

I never met the man, but know he was a very generous and influential supporter. I'm sure his four sons will continue to be support the men's Bball program as they have.
