Charleston Classic: West Virginia game thread

Postby muskieman » Sat Nov 22, 2025 6:32 pm

Sunday: 11/23 3:30 PM

TV: ESPN announcers: play-by-play John Schriffen and analysis Scott Williams. Stream: ESPN+
Xavier Radio: 55KRC

West Virginia vs Xavier in the third-place game of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Series history: Xavier leads the all-time series 2-1
Last meeting: Xavier won 84-74 in Cincinnati in 2022 as part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle

West Virginia suffered a similar fate, as Xavier, in its first-round game, falling at the very end to Clemson. The Tigers took the lead with 30 seconds left and led by three when Brenen Lorient opted for a wide-open dunk rather than try to tie the game with 11 seconds left.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Biggest fear today: Milievic gets abused in the post or gets into foul trouble.

Anti-Homer Milievic looks closer to 6-8 than 6-10. He is our best offensive player but better suited to play power forward. If he gets in foul trouble we are in a lot of trouble .Might be a good time to try Robinson and N'Diaye on their big guy Obioha. The worst that could happen is they get in foul trouble. We could try the old Georgetown Philosophy in that the center position has 10 fouls to give and use all ten.

I agree N'Diaye & Robinson should get some time to show if they can make a contribution, in every game. Milevic isn't built to guard the post and is too handsy. However, nothing in their past or experience at X, albeit in a limited sample size, leads me to believe they will make a positive contribution. Unless Milievic gets into foul trouble, the leash on both should be short.

Good first half for the Muskies. We are 8-13 from the three point line. Wright and Moore with nothing first half's. Robinson is a work in progress but he played 7 minutes and got 3 rebounds. More importantly he got Milicevic some rest. I doubt we will continue to shoot threes at that rate ( 62% ) in the second half so I hope we can make some two point baskets in the second half. I will say we are vastly improved from the start of the season. Nice to see the effort and compete level improve like it has.

I am beginning to warm to these new muskies. Not sure we are Big East ready yet but we improved dramatically since the Marist game and forget about Santa Clara.

Best game of the year. I said we couldn't shoot the three's like that two half's in a row. Shows you what I know. Really liked the effort the last two games. Anderson, Wright, Carrol and Milicevic and Filip all played well. Moore seems to be lost. He played 24 minutes and didn't score. But the game ball goes to Robinson with his 9 minutes and four rebounds. LOL. The front court needs some rest. I think it's time to give Panoam a chance. Moore isn't doing much.

I think we are seeing a team come together, but more importantly, we see a coach and staff who don't dogmatically stick to one way of doing things but are willing to make adjustments. Granted, X shot lights out from three, but they moved the ball and played smart at both ends with only a few breakdowns, which happens to every team.

Team ball Jovan Milicevic leads all scorers with 21, Tre Carroll finishes with 17, All Wright adds 14 points, and Roddie Anderson III scores 11. Our top three double-digit scorers beat their top three, and we added a fourth with Anderson III adding 11

I like the new Muskies and I believe we are Big East ready.
