Georgetown thread

Postby muskieman » Fri Dec 19, 2025 4:04 pm

When: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, AT 8:30 P.M. ET
Where: CAPITAL ONE ARENA IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

TV: FS1 with play-by-play from Noah Reed and analysis from Phil Martelli.
Radio: 700 WLW

Ratings: Xavier is No. 103 in KenPom and Georgetown is No. 93. Xavier dropped to No. 137 in the NCAA NET Rankings, and Georgetown is No. 111.

Series History: Xavier leads the all-time series 22-7, with each team winning at home last season. Xavier is 7-3 at Capital One Arena

This matchup comes at a pivotal moment for both programs. Xavier is trying to steady itself after a historic blowout loss to Creighton, while Georgetown is looking to build momentum after a strong Big East opener on the road.

Xavier opened conference action with a positive outlook on the season. Forty minutes later, Xavier walked out of a near-empty home arena with a humbling 41-point loss, and fans were complaining and negative again.

Georgetown Hoyas
Home Georgetown is undefeated at home (6–0), giving them a meaningful edge in this matchup.
Balanced scoring: Averaging 78.2 PPG, the Hoyas score slightly above what Xavier typically allows.
Defensive efficiency: They rank seventh in the Big East in opponent scoring, holding teams to 73.6 PPG on 42.3% shooting.
Key player impact: Julius Halaifonua is coming off a 21‑point performance in their win over Marquette.

Momentum from Big East opener: Georgetown opened league play with a road win at Marquette, signaling early-season resilience.

Pace & shot quality: Georgetown’s efficiency at home could pressure Xavier’s defense, which just surrendered 98 points to Creighton.

Interior scoring: Halaifonua’s recent surge means Xavier must control the paint early to avoid foul trouble and second‑chance points.

Guard play under pressure: Xavier’s ability to stabilize after runs will be critical — they’ve shown both volatility and resilience this season.

Momentum swings: Georgetown’s home crowd and unbeaten home record could amplify runs; Xavier must avoid the slow starts that have plagued them.

Hope for a Miracle
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

After the first three possessions, we know that X isn't going to get the calls tonight.

So Tre gets elbowed in the face and it’s a foul on him?

Wow, it’s almost like you foul out the best player on the floor so your joke college feels good about itself.

Remember that G’town put a cover over the podium to cover Cross of Christ for a politician..
