"X-Men"

We are the Musketeers...not a bunch of fictional superheros in tight suits with claws and laser beam vision.
I hate seeing it around the web. If we could ban it from our own summaries on the musketeermadness.com and our own vocabularies that would be fantastic. The summaries are superb, but the usage of X-Men makes me nautious. It's almost as bad as people calling us "Eggs-avier"...

Honestly, I don't find it to be that big of a deal, it's not like it's a derogatory term either. I can understand your argument though, but I'd prefer that over people mispronouncing Xavier. That's something that bothers me much more because people assume that the X is emphasized because they don't know any better. The people that mispronounce Xavier are probably the same people who call us a "mid-major" school....
something else that bothers me is the change in the beginning of the fight song, if anyone has paid attention to it. if not, when you're at the next game, give it a listen, mainly to the beginning of it, if you can hear the beginning...

If you look at the current student body, ex-men would certainly apply.

dbrownthrows,
I disagree. If someone on this site is using the term X-men, then they are using it in a positive sense - maybe you don't like that term, but that particular fan from Muskieland does. By the way, am I allowed to use the term "Muskieland"? Is it offensive to you or does is simply bother you? Please let me know and I will change my thought patterns and how i conceptualize the language I use to describe those fans from Xavier nation.
Regardless of our differences, we share one thing in common... We are all huge fans of XU basketball. Let's celebrate this common thread and welcome all who want to come here and join our community. Of course, I am not talking about trolls but real XU fans.
Why on earth would we want to alienate anyone who takes the time to come to this site to contribute and to support the Muskies? X-men, Blue Monsters, whatever. How about sticking to the eggsavier campaign and welcoming all supporters regardless of the terms they use to describe those "young men that play basketball for Xavier University"?

If we are on a crusade of incorrect names for our Musketeers, can we also ban the use of the term "Muskies"? It is incorrect to call ourselves the Muskies because a "Musky" is, in fact, an animal in its own right. According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the muskellunge, ala, MUSKY,
"is one of the largest and most elusive fish that swims in Minnesota. A muskie will eat fish and sometimes ducklings and even small muskrats. It waits in weed beds and then lunges forward, clamping its large, tooth-lined jaws onto the prey. The muskie then gulps down the stunned or dead victim head first. Muskies are light colored and usually have dark bars running up and down their long bodies."

Therefore, while some of us believe that our use of the word Muskies is a shortened version of Musketeers, it is in fact a large game fish found in the waters of Minnesota. Therefore, we are inadvertently cheering for a game fish with teeth than for the Musketeers when we use the term Muskies. This is outrageous, and most be stopped at all costs.

huddleup1487,
I hope to God you are joking.
Under your interpretation of the English language "Americans" literally means everyone who lives in the western hemisphere, "All men are created equal" would only mean all white men who own land, etc.
In English there are no correct definitions or correct terms of usage. We have no royal academies or any institutions that decide what is correct English. In this way, English is different than French - thank goodness. The "correct" meanings of words in English are determined by popular usage - and only this. Since a significant number of Xavier fans use the term Muskie, then they use it correctly.

Haha I was simply venting a personal frustration Bama. Wasn't anything to require that much unnecessary thought.
