Greatest Season

I would disagree. It's the same Elite Eight loss we had 4 years ago, and that game we lost by 3.

Today, we were almost never in the game, and ended up losing by 19.

So, did this team win the most games ever? Yes. Is it the best team? I'd say no. Not only did we once again lose an Elite Eight game, but we lost this game badly.

Great season, lousy finish.

So if I am reading your post right the only way to have the greatest season is to win the NC. Also that means every team this year but one will not have their greatest season. Watch out Davidson.

It's hard to say that the '08 is the hands-down winner of the "best team" designation when it went no farther than the '04 team, and lost by a much larger margin.

I do not know if this is our best team ever but I do know they were my favorite team since I have been following (about 62). Sooooo much heart, great team spirit, I think they over-achieved and never did get cocky but had plenty of self confidence. Not easy to have that kind of balance at thier ages. I will miss the seniors more than any we have ever had.

Do you really think that Duke team was as good as this UCLA team is? Using points lost by is not a realistic comparison.

They won 30 games (school record) against the toughest schedule Xavier has ever played. They were ranked in the Top 10 for a good portion of the year, and equalled the deepest tournament run in school history.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 2004 team. Romain Sato is easily my favorite Muskie of all time. That team however, struggled for the majority of the year. They were 10-9 at one point and 10-6 in the A-10, which wasn't nearly as good as it was this year top to bottom.

This team was excellent from start to finish for the most part. They had a few bad games, and tonight was dissapointing, but overall this team got it done and it wasn't just a nice run that got them this far.

I love both teams equally though. I love Xavier basketball!!

Mr "Nancy" up in chi-town is staring too close to the scoreboard. Let's recap...toughest non-conference schedule, thoughest A-10 in a decade, no sub-.500 against any conference including at least one game against every BCS conference with exception to the PAC-10 unfortunately. Against the SEC 2-1, against the Big 10 2-0, against the Big East 2-0, against the Big 12 1-0 and against the ACC 1-0. Also 12-2 against the best A-10 conference in years. Xavier was rewarded for all this with 3 seed against a "give-me" first round match up with the hottest team in the SEC who had finally recovered from team expulsions and injuries and were hitting on all cylinders at the end of the SEC season and won the SEC tournament, but they took care of Georgia. Then had a bit of a "breather" against the youngest and most exiciting teams in the Big 10. A Purdue team that argueably WILL be the most talented team in the Big 10 for the next 2-3 seasons if not longer. After that Xavier was matched up with a WVU team that, had it not been for one very poor game in the middle of the Big East season against UC and a crap non-goal tending call against Pitt would have been a 3-4 seed themselves, they dispatched them in one of the most exciting tournament games this seasons. Then, after all that, our Muskies strapped up thier Nike's 48 hours later and ran into a buzzsaw called UCLA who was reeling from an embarassing showing against TX A&M and let WKU sneek back in their next matchup and realised they had something to prove. All this is not to say the Muskies did not play their best and lost to the best. On the contrary, I would grade their offense a D and their defense a C-plus in this final game. Bottom line though is if you're to judge a season by the last game then I don't think that's fair to the team and all the support staff. Great season, thanks to the seniors and let's keep moving forward. We could only be so fortunate for a senior on every Xavier team from this day forward to claim that they are leading the best X team ever and be able to back it up with facts.
