If he would have been at X and had even part of the success he had later we would have bought the spirits and then washed and waxed his car.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Reading some of these responses brings back great memories.

Coming off the melba-toast Tay Baker regime, anyone could have looked energetic, but Staak truly was energetic. He also was totally committed and believed in Xavier's potential.

You talk about hosting beer parties, etc. How many of you recall the first pep rally Bob threw to begin the long process of getting the student body to buy into the program? They held it at the Armory across from Schmidt. I remember it a clear as day, which is amazing because the Hudy kegs were flowing that night.

Think about this guys: this is Xavier pre-O'Conner Center. This is X having to prove it can rebuild program demand by filling Schmidt before it can even begin to think about moving forward, moving beyond that to a status that would equate to a program that could possibly make some noise and potentially be attractive as a prospective conference mate.

Miller has done great things for Xavier. If you kind of look at it from a "degree of difficulty of the dive" perspective, Staak came to Xavier, believing he could stick a triple, half-pike backward to forward flip can opener from the 10 meter platform. He had to believe in himself. He had to be patient. He had to be good. He had all that.

Question for Q: you said Ned Wulk had a pink slip. Was he really forced out? What really happened with his leaving?
