True, but Crawford chose to leave for "personal reasons". He could have stayed at IU, but he didn't.
Look, I'd be ecstatic if Crawford could play for X this year, but I can't say we've got a strong case. It reminds me of our '04-'05 season where X fans swore up and down we should get an NIT bid---but they were the only ones who thought so. I didn't, because it would have been great for us but unfair to some other, more deserving school. Same thing here.
This is getting ridiculous!!!

Here's a lengthy discussion of the situation from the XU newswire--

Nothing is the "same."
But, XU wasn't given a bid, not because they weren't deserving, but because the ***** AD at Fordham, a sister member school, vetoed Xavier flat out of spite ... and for all intent and purposes admitted as much.

That's one of the many differences between us, Wise. You can only see things from an ardent pro-Xavier perspective. I can take a broader perspective, which is what you have to do if you're going to fairly and objectively analyze any situation.

When Crawford stated numerous times that he wanted to stay and then suddenly up and leaves after having a meeting with the coach(and it comes out that he was asked to leaves because the coach wanted his players) that is a personal reason that deserves a reasonable response, no the letter of the law.Mr. Neutral wrote:<<One player left a program that is facing major suspensions for multiple NCAA infractions and that player doesn't want to suffer the punishment of what he had no control over.>>

If the school, in this case Xavier, appeals and then IU is given the chance to respond and does not address the main points of the appeal then I guess there is a problem with IU not Xavier.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: This is getting ridiculous!!!
Tom Crean would be nuts to drive off Crawford, especially with almost no returning players. With all due respect to Jordan, I'm guessing he wanted to get out of what he thought was a bad situation, and that Crean wanted him to stay. Remember, it was Dakich who kicked Crawford and Bassett off the team, not Crean.
From SI.com:
Former Indiana guard Jordan Crawford, who informed new Hoosiers coach Tom Crean last month that he would not return to play in Bloomington next winter, has decided to transfer to Xavier University, SI.com has learned.
From the Evansville Courier-Press:
Two weeks ago, Indiana University basketball coach Tom Crean said he couldn't guarantee that his top returning scorer would return to Bloomington in the fall.
On Wednesday, Jordan Crawford proved Crean correct. In a one-sentence statement released by the school's sports information department, Crean said, "Jordan Crawford and his family informed us today that he will not return to Indiana University."

Sean made some comments about the NCAA's decision making process yesterday that you could definetly hear some sarcasm in.What exactly takes them so long to make a decision? I would be stunned if they let him play but make the decision so the team and Crawford can move on!

From the Phila. Bulletin--
Two prominent waiver applications still under review are the cases of Alex Stephenson (from North Carolina to USC) and Jordan Crawford (Indiana to Xavier). Stephenson transferred to be closer to his family due to "several health concerns," while Crawford transferred for undisclosed reasons. Requests for interviews with USC's Tim Floyd and Xavier's Sean Miller were declined.
Many coaches are unsettled by the increasing number of player transfers due to the atmosphere that surrounds high school basketball, where the number of transfers has become laughable. Players bounce from school to school with reckless abandon, as conniving coaches and AAU swindlers whisper sweet nothings in their ears. College coaches see it on a day-to-day basis. The idea of it happening at their level is a harrowing notion.
"It's a dangerous, slippery slope," said Louisville coach Rick Pitino, shaking his head from side to side.
To a man, nearly every coach agrees that the NCAA needs to define the rule sooner rather than later.

When a coach can break a contract but a player can not transfer without sitting out a year seem to me to be blatantly unfair. At first I thought it would be too easy for a kid to move around and this would make him think twice...which would be a good thing but when Rick and the boys can have a great year and jump to another school that is OKAY? Some may say that is financial and would be a restraint of their ability to make money but these kids are playing ball many times to get a chance at the big ring too.
Come up with a solution to the coaches moving and I will accept players not moving around.
