What I saw ....

Postby Wisexuowl » Tue Mar 18, 2008 9:40 pm

For what its worth, looking a little bit ahead, I saw (in person) Baylor play two games at home this winter, losing to Washington State very early in the season, and beating Texas A&M. In both games, Baylor played opposite styles, although I think Washington St forced them into a low scoring game (67-64) with a deliberate half court game.
The game with the Aggies was a five OT affair with Baylor winning 116-110 , both teams distaining defense and going race-horse up and down the floor.
They are “long” they shoot well, but they really are not into hard defense. Against Purdue (who I have only seen on TV one time) Baylor might have the edge in experience, but me thinks if Purdue is on shooting wise, they would win a shoot-out. Against us, and I saw us play 30 times on TV, I think we have a big edge against either one.
I also have seen in person, Texas, Kansas, Memphis, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arizona.
And, I was more impressed with Texas than any of the rest. Texas ripped Tennessee, and beat KU by three, and in the Big 12 finals (TV for me) they had KU down with two to play … so they can play with the best. Besides, I saw A&M just crush KU.
Kentucky was just pitiful against a very so-so UH team, Memphis was way above UH’s in talent and coaching, and ditto Arizona, though neither coach gets any raves there.
I think Xavier can beat any of the above mentioned teams, except for Texas, Kansas, and Memphis … but on any given night….
Sorry Gary that I didn’t get to see Loyola or Chicago State, but I kinda limit myself … even though I caught Rice twice against Duquesne and Richmond … Rice losing both.
An aside here. Rice won like three games while never have an on campus game. Their decrepit “arena” is undergoing a renovation (a waste of money) so they had to play in a high school arena 35 miles from the campus and in a horse arena. They had a ton of injuries to boot. So the new (a year ago) AD fired the coach who had been a part of the program as a player, assistant, and head coach for 23 years.
If they had built a “Cintas” (their endowment is like a BILLION dollars), this could have become the Duke/Stanford of the Southwest.

I agree with most that you said there. I am as well as you seem to be a college basketball nut. I've seen pretty much everybody play this year at least 2 times. I think Kansas may be a more rounded team the Texas but Texas has the best guard in the country in Dj Augastin. They also have atchley and AJ abrahms. Please forgive me if my spellling is off but oh well. Kansas has also a very nasty backcourt in rush and chalmers. They to have a very good front court with kahn coming off the bench. I do love X's draw besides playing UGA in the first round. On paper were the obvious favorite which is what i thought until the past 24 hours of studying UGA game tape. They are a very fast strong team. The main thing that will hurt them though is our D stopper in stanley and their mainly one man team in Gaines. If stanley can keep Sundiata in check then we should cruise to the elite 8 I think. I'm not too worried about purdont or byu. Duke we should be able to keep their 3's in check with our outstanding perimeter D and if you keep Duke in check from 3 then the rest should fall in place. That just leaves maybe a injured UCLA with mba moute getting hurt in the conference tourney as well as love playing on a bad back. who knows what will happen but we need to take it one at a time. GO MUSKIES!!!!

<<Sorry Gary that I didn’t get to see Loyola or Chicago State,>>

So you didn't see 29-3 Butler twice, eh?

And I didn't see Chicago State, either. I did see University of Illinois-Chicago, which was in the MCC with Xavier, but I understand that a man of your age would have trouble remembering a former conference opponent.

Only saw Butler on TV ... Media darling that Committee put in Top 28 teams ... big drop from Top Ten, and placement ahead of XU ... nice team that ain't going nowhere.

Illinois St, Starbucks @ Chicago, Chicxago Square, Chicago St, Chicago Circle, O'Leary A&M, ... who cares.

Hell, none of them even made the CBI, and if you didn't make the CBI, then move into the NAIA.

I know details and getting things right aren't your strong point, Wise. My fault for expecting your faculties to be sharper than they are.

behave boys it is Holy Week.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

mm, if you notice, Wise decided to bring my name up in a post, not the other way around. Once a guy fires the first shot, it's gametime.

I guess you missed the concept of Holy Week. ;-]

Dick Tracy's motto was "never fire the first shot, but once it IS fired, don't miss with yours".

Words to live by, Holy Week or not. And it's got to be Holy Week for everybody, and not just me.
