Ever since the earliest days of John Wooden's tenure as the Bruins' head coach I attributed the word, "class," to your basketball program. Your post only strengthens my long-standing feelings about the program since it shows the class of the Bruins' fan base.

Basketball fans throughout the US would do well to root for a match-up of two clean programs such as ours in the Elite Eight.

I'll be screaming my head off for UCLA to join us for an exciting game on Saturday, even though Western Kentucky is our neighbor and as squeaky-clean as our two programs. If XU is to advance to the Final Four, it would be a much greater challenge to achieve by defeating the Bruins than it would the Hilltoppers.

Thanks...How's Coach Wooden Doing?....

I grew up in Newport Beach, CA (about a 1-5 hour drive south of LA depending on the traffic on the Interstates. My parents both went UCLA, and so did all my siblings, and I was always a UCLA fan growing up and was that way until I somehow managed to "walk-on" on the Georgetown (KY) basketball team for a year before transfering to X in the fall of 97. At that point X was my team 1a and UCLA remained my 1b. This will be quite the match up for me, and I will pulling for X all the way.

But UCLA is the class of all class programs (with the Jim Harrick years the lone exceptions). My sister swam at UCLA while she went there. She said at about 90% of all UCLA home sporting events (swimming, water polo, track, soccer, football, ect) there was an old "uber" fan in stands cheering the bruins, a guy by the name of John Wooden. Wooden would even speak to athletes every so often and when he did and an athlete raised their hand to ask a question Wooden always knew the player by their first name from reading his UCLA media guides and going to all those events, and this was regardless if the athlete was the team's superstar or bench warmer. I don't know why I shared such a positive story or light on a team our alma mater will be playing against to get into the final four, but these are the stories that are missing from the tourney and just thought it should be given some light here in the Nasti. I certainly hope that some day X can find their "John Wooden," not a guy who ultimately wins a championship every year (although that would be nice), but a coach who gives his life to the university and we can proud of all times and brag about to everyone because of their selflessness and class.
