TNT: Xavier is Forward U

Some great pub during tonight's Hornets-Spurs game. Xavier was featured in the "Bud Light Lime Around the League Segment" They profiled notable Xavier forwards who recently played in the NBA: Tryone Hill, D Strong, A-train, B Grant, Posey and of course, West.

Reggie Miller: "At Penn State they have linebacker U, USC has running back U, why not at Xavier, forward U?"

Rack that tape up and send it to the recruits!

It was a very nice profile of Xavier. With the exception of the reference to "Xavier of Ohio", it was quite the suprise for them to highlight the run of Xavier forwards to play in the NBA. David West didn't have a great game but continues to play like a champion in a blowout win for the Hornets.

As they said with David getting 30 in the first game the game plan was to take David away and he set up others to deliver. He had some very nice passes out of the double that found the open man. He also didn't let them push his teammates around getting in the face of a few players. Barkley said that NO will win this series because they have better players like West. It is nice to see West and CP3 link together as factors of the NO's success. Now a Celtic vs NO championship with Posey vs West.

It is also nice to see a number of A-10 players that are in the post season. Nelson, smith, delonte west, etc.

What's your problem with the Xavier of Ohio reference when you are doing a game in New Orleans where there is also a Xavier of New Orleans? Xavier grads are way too thin skinned when it comes to name references.

Xavier of N.O is DII school that cant possibly be confused with X.

Xavier should be referenced as XAVIER ! Period !

Georgetown doesn't get referenced as Georgetown of the District of Columbia. There is a Georgetown College in Kentucky you know.

They do refer to the Hurricanes as Miami (FL) though.

This reference thing, Xavier of Ohio, is something that while it gripes us, ought best to be left alone and ignored. The more we harp on it the more it will be the focus. ESPN and most CBS and other media commentators refer to us as Xavier. Period end of story.
For many, many years Miami University used to get very upset about being confused with University of Miami. Miami University is located in Oxford, Ohio (not England) and University of Miami is, of course, located in Coral Gables, Fla.
In the old days of hot type publication of newspapers, many papers went to a "down" style, capitalizing only the first word of every sentence, proper nouns and lower casing the such words as university, after Xavier university, Eighth street, the Carew Tower building, the Albee theater etc. Why?
Because each line of type was set by a linotype operator and each capitalization required him to move his hand and fingers up or to the side for another keyboard which contained all capital letters.
Today, with cold type and computer generated copy, a shift key keeps both hands on the keyboard and saves time and energy.
In the case of the Miami's it's easier to put (OH) after one school and (FLA.) after the other. Besides, not every communications major (HHHmmmmmm) can remember where Miami University or University of Miami is located.
And if there are two Miamis, what happens when there more than two Xaviers and many more St. Xaviers? But since the NCAA cleared this names business up years ago, there really is no excuse for Xavier of Ohio unless you're too damned lazy to either look it up or ask somebody.

Xavier (OH) in print does not bother me. A commentator saying Xavier of Ohio does.

Calling Xavier (even Professor Xavier or Xavier McDaniel) Eggsavier really bothers me as it is just ignorant.
