Not really. With his money and contract, most clubs don't want to claim him. There was discussion before the trading date and this comment came up, and it was explained that clearing waivers would be easy, and I guess it was.
Now that the fire sale is on, the question is will the Reds do more trading?

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

All valid points, mm, but you have to admit, it's not often that the leage leader in HR's clears waivers.

Yes and no. Consider these gazelles-
Prince Fielder
Jim Thome
Cecil Fielder
Dave Kingman
Kevin Mitchell
etc.

Does baseball now time the home run hitter?
Gee, I thought all he had to do was touch the bases and home plate, high five the first and 3B coaches, and tip his hat to the screaming fans.
Does the HR hitter get more points for doing it faster?
How about the DH guys , they are one just "one tool" players.

You're right in that the HR leaders tend to be guy who aren't 100-yard dash threats, but, as you can see from this list, MLB has had some genuine athletes who led their respective leagues in HR's, including guys like Mays, Mantle, Aaron, Reggie Jackson, Mike Schmidt, Dale Murphy, Strawberry, Sandberg, Griffey, A-Rod, etc., who, before they were hit by injuries and/or age, were very respectable position players.
While I'm an AL fan, and think few things in sports are more boring than watching the pitcher hit, use of the DH at the college and minor-league levels has given us a generation of guys who don't have even acceptable fielding skills.

The fact is the man might be the HR leader but for a man that can average 40 plus every year it would be nice if he could hit a single with an man on second and two outs from time to time. In the field he was hit or miss and most the time it was miss. He had a good arm but never accurate. He hit home runs and that is about it. The reds wanted to see if the man could lead the team after Jr left and he proved he wasn't a leader in Cincy. Good luck to him...maybe going somewhat back home might help him. I figure he is a diamondback for a year and then somewhere a DH. He can hit it a mile but it still adds up to one run.

Re: OT: D'backs get Dunn from Reds
The Reds received in return a pitcher whose ERA is approaching 5, with a 1-4 WL record, in single A, as well as two other minor leaguers to be named later. Not a whole lot. The Enquirer also published the new Reds' lineup, which includes Corey Patterson. Reds fans must be patient for the future that never arrives.
