The announcer stated that the technical foul against Findlay was a class A technical.
What are the classes of technicals? Is this something new?

Re: Class A technical?
Here's more than you wanted to know about this distinction, from SEC Supervisor of Officials Gerald Boudreaux-----
Class A technical fouls are pretty serious. Some examples for players would be, disrespecting an official, the use of profanity and vulgarity, intentional contact of players, and any type of flagrant contact. As it relates to the coaches and bench personnel examples would be, disrespecting an official from the bench, coach rising in objection off of his feet, exciting the crowd, and for any players that come off of the bench who are involved fighting. The penalty for any Class A technical foul is 2 free throws. It counts towards an individual's personal limit and also counts towards the bonus for the team's count. Now the thing that you remember is, with all technical fouls we go back to the point of interruption, with the exception of an intentional or flagrant technical foul. In those cases the ball is administered at mid-court to the offending team. When a Class A technical foul is assessed to bench personnel it will also count as a Class B technical for the head coach. A maximum of 2 Class A technical fouls, or 1 flagrant technical foul, and a combination of 1 Class A and 2 Class B technical fouls will result in ejection. Class B infractions examples do not include contact with the opponent. Player examples include, when the ball is in flight during a free throw and is goal tended, when an opponent reaches across the boundary of the end line and touches or dislodges a player, or when a player enters the game without being called in by the official. As it relates to coaches and bench personnel, after a warning for a coaching box infraction the coach receives a Class B technical foul. If any coach ventures out of the coaching box he is given a warning, the second time he is assessed a Class B technical foul, he could get another Class B foul, but on his third Class B technical foul he is ejected. Failure to replace a disqualified player within 20 seconds and any bench personnel entering the floor will constitute a Class B technical foul. Penalty for Class B technical fouls is 2 free throws and it counts towards any future ejection. Class B technical fouls will not be recorded as part of the team count. Any class B technical foul assessed to bench personnel shall also be charged to the head coach as a Class B. A maximum of 3 Class B technical fouls or a combination of 1 Class A and 2 Class B technical fouls will lead to an ejection. This is the first year for these rules. We are going to continue to communicate these changes. When we report the technical fouls, the press announcer will announce that a coach has been assessed either a Class A or B technical foul and that should trigger the necessary information."

Trigger the necessary information where? In my head, if I'm supposed to remember this? All this will do is cause most fans to have the same reaction we did last night which was "Huh?"Mr. Neutral wrote:This is the first year for these rules. Golf is a relatively simple game, played by reasonably intelligent people, stupidly.

Re: Class A technical?
What lawyer dreamed this up and wrote it.
I don't think any D-1 official in the country could tell you this in that manner without a teleprompter, aand I would just love to hear the foremost authority on basketball (self-described) Dickie V explain this when a Class A Technical is called on the first game he is doing.
He'd sum it up this way ... "this is to punish anyone who thinks bad about the ACC and Duke in particular."

And yet we wonder why we haven't heard about Crawford's status as yet.
It's being determined by the same people that wrote this.

Re: Class A technical?
Could we ever see a class-e foul? Xavier's Brown had a T called last night but they didn't give the class. Drendo must not have gone over that with the guys during his one-n-one sessions.
BTW Drendo....you were given the job of reporting back about the class A foul not having Gary do all your work for you....you now owe him a free filing or a set of caps! BY order of the commissioner.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Class A technical?
What good's any technical if an official like Cahill in the OSU game can't even recognize an intentional foul. If you think about it, the a,b,c or whatever is just another way for officials to exercise subjective judgment and screw one team over --the team that's supposed toi lost.

Re: Class A technical?
Didn't Kenny get a technical after he dunked over the Findlay player and then yelled at him? I don't remember them saying what class it was though.
As for the dunk and then yell, I loved that. Kenny looks like he has a swagger on the court and likes to talk some smack out there. I love that about him. I don't know if that is his style of play at all times or he was just feeling it during the scrimmage, but I hope it continues. We saw how Stan was able to get under opposing player's skin during games, as well as opposing fans', so I look forward to him taking the mantle.

Re: I want my, I want my, I want my MTV...NOW!
the rules are written by a Rules Committee, not "a bunch of lawyers." [http://web1.ncaa.org/committees/commit ... 76fd5b.pdf
That being the case, He will likely have to have his appeal heard by a special panel or committee comprised not of regular staff, but qualified individuals from NCAA member institutions who are not simply on call daily to hear but one of thousands of eligibility appeals filed each year.
----------------------
The rules changes respond to complex problems in the game, including a number of actions by players and coaches that would have been unimaginable 20 or even 10 years ago. Having a heirarchy of technical fouls and penalties is an experiment that has been discussed for years before this season. Are the new technicals too technical? Legit hotstove issue, but I find them pretty easy to understand.
If you have ever tried to read the Rule book before these recent changes, you may wish a good lawyer had drafted the rules, which are dense at times and in places. Try the "checking in at the scorer's table rules" some time. But certainly these basketball rules are not any more technical than the rules of baseball, for example. Cf pine tar rules.
