NCAA - IU
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

It will be a real long shot for Crawford because of this....Sorry I didn't see other threads,

Re: NCAA - IU
As I mentioned last week, the Big Whatever (from the days dating back to Tug Wilson and former NCAA honcho Wayne Duke) the two organizations have been joined at the hip.
Probation! What a joke. Fact of the matter is they were already on "probation" .. not to the letter of the word ... but a warning that they had beer straighten out their act ... which they didn't ... and now they get probation.
And if anyone thinks that is fair .. I got dozens of schools who made lesser violations BUT are not members of a BCS Conference and therefore get hammered so the NCAA can say "we're on top of things."

Re: NCAA - IU
The NCAA said:
An NCAA news release said the infractions committee took into account that the case created “a decimation of the men’s basketball program” at IU. The committee also noted that IU had not had a major NCAA violation since 1960.
Maybe Crean chasing off players was part of the plan.

Well, the "decimation" got Crean an extended new contract. Nothing like engineering a couple of extra years at multi millions of dollars.muskieman wrote:Maybe Crean chasing off players was part of the plan.
Pretty clever, that Crean.

It may be noted elsewhere, but channel 12's Brad Johansson citing unnamed sources said Xavier has been told the NCAA has denied Crawford's exemption claiming he decided to transfer and was not forced to. In other words that f...er Crean lied through his teeth. A great example of institutional control and oversight.

To be honest, I don't recall any confirmation that Crawford was "forced to" transfer. My recollection was that even Crawford acknowledged transferring voluntarily. I could be wrong.the NCAA has denied Crawford's exemption claiming he decided to transfer and was not forced to.
The only confirmed screen name banned for life on Xavier Hoops!

Re: NCAA - IU
It is rare that a school says they forced out a player unless it is for being arressted and such because they don't want that hung around their neck when they recruit. When you hear and read IU fans wanting him, Jordan's numerious comments that he wanted to stay and the fact that he stayed for a number a weeks after Crean became coach, not to mention he enrolled in summer school there is a lot of factors that point to the fact that what Jordan and Xavier told the NCAA: "that Crean asked him to leave".Mr. Neutral wrote:To be honest, I don't recall any confirmation that Crawford was "forced to" transfer. If Crean wanted him instead of his scholarship I am sure he would have done more to keep him. The meeting, after which Jordan announced he was leaving, came at the request of Crean.
This might be one time a tape of the conversation would have been nice.

Re: NCAA - IU
MM,
Even with a tape of the conversation between Crean and Crawford, the NCAA would still be likely to deny Jordan's request for an exemption and immediate eligibility. They'd simply lose the tape and/or deny its existence.
I have absolutely no respect for the NCAA or its double standards as Wisexowl has pointed out. There is no way Myles Brand was going to let the institution he formerly headed have its basketball "Program decimated."
Since when does the fact that a program will be "decimated" have anything to do with even enforcement of the NCAA's rules which are a joke? The SMU football program got the death penalty, and the football program was not only decimated, it never has recovered and probably never will.
The probation given Indiana means absolutely nothing other than giving the NCAA a chance to say we're on top of everything." Yeah, right. What a joke.
I guarantee you if a member of the A10, or C-USA or the Mountain West or the WAC or Sun Belt were found guilty of the same "major violations" Indiana committed, the three year probation would have carried with it 3 years without postseason play, one year without television except for local contracts already signed, and the offending coach forbidden to recruit off campus, plus loss of scholarships and number of official visits athletes may pake to that school.
But the Big 6 or Bowl Championship Leagues have one set of rules and the rest of the teams have to watch their step or get slammed.
As far as Crawford is concerned, see UC's Ben Mauck. He applied for an additional year last January and heard nothing until the school had opened its season.
The NCAA doesn't give a sh!t about the individual student athlete. All they care about is making damn sure the money pipe keeps flowing smoothly. That's why we're often treated to Indiana vs. Minnesota on a Saturday afternoon instead of Michigan vs. Iowa.

Why would Crean ask him to leave? Under the circumstances,I would think Crean would have been begging these guys to stay. I did read an article in SI a few weeks back that was less than flattering about some of the IU players from last year-attitude problems, drug issues.Didn't name anyone.Hopefully Crawford was not one of the players they were refering to.
