Recalling all the "just wait until genius gets his own players" I take great delight this morning to see Fat Charlie's recruits come in as 32 point dogs this weekend .. which by the way is the biggest spread against ND in its history. Wonder what Vegas would say if they were playing the Okies?
Andway, Lee Curso said on a Chi radio Wednesday the "entire Catholic Church doesn't have enought money to buyout his contract." Not true, but it is a great line. The Trib quoted a ND source saying the money is "loose change."
Trib says buyout is like $3 million, other sources say it's like $15 million .. all depending on seven years @ base or seven years @ total package.
General opinion says Charlie has zero, zip, nada relationships on campus or with alumns.
Lets see, Romeo and Charlie are losers and Bilichek keeps winning.
I just love it!

Re: I just love it!
I have been reading this board since it's existence (I used to post, but life got busy). I have season tickets to XU and am a lifelong Muskie fan (dad went there). I went to ND. I just have to ask because a thread like this comes up every year--Why are some xavier fans obsessed with taking joy in Notre Dame's misery? First of all this is a Xavier basketball board--xavier is ranked--why do we talk about this? Second, there are only two D I Catholic Football Programs. It's not like Xavier has any dog in this fight. To be honest, when I read this stuff, it makes me feel like some XU fans have an inferiority complex when it comes to ND (they should not of course). Like the kid in school that laughs at other kids--it's usually because there is some jealousy. Honestly, is there any other explanation for brining this up on this board? There are hundreds of other compelling college football stories--but the choice is made to pile on ND.
Worst part about it is that ND Football and XU football can separate themselves as elite programs build on similar principles--win the right way, graduate players, build tradition.
I'd be willing to bet that the people that start these threads are Ohio State fans or the like--programs that take the huggins or tressel approach. Just a hunch.
Can someone explain this?

Re: I just love it!
If I had to take a stab at it I would probably attribute those actions to the 'holier than thou" attitude that emanates from South Bend.
I could have gone to Notre Dame myself but I simply didn't likr the attitude of the people I met when I visited there back in the early 50's. My cousin was a little more hoity-toity than I and she went to St. Mary's and married a graduate of Notre Dame. That was her choice and mine was Xavier.
I remember an incidence that occurred when I had car trouble on I-90 back in '58. I had to hitch a ride to DeKalb to get some help (no cell phones in those days) and was picked up by a gentleman that was going to visit his daughter at NIU. He proceeded to make small talk about a number of things as we drove down the road and then started talking about schools.
I git a big kick out of him trying to remember the name of the school his daughter's boyfriend went to and he finally said "you know, that Catholic college in South Bend."
Anyway, ND and the Ivy League Schools always seem to have that "I'm better than you are" attitude and guess what - you aren't.

I think that attitude is imposed by others. I'm sure there are some rotten apples. I've heard UC fans say similar things about X fans. I bet if you asked one of these ND haters what their problem is they would make similar generalities. But if X fans take a hard look at what program is most their "mirror" in college football, it would be notre dame.

Stuffins, as a lifelong Chicago resident, I'm way tired of the subway alums who think every 7-4 ND team should be national champion.
I respect the school for its academics and athletic success, but the Gerry Faust years were very enjoyable, and watching Charlie Weis tank is just as enjoyable.
The only local (Chicago-area) alums even close to ND on the "insufferable" scale are Michigan alums, and they don't come close.
I root for ND basketball, but I hate ND football. If the Irish went 0-11 every year in football, I'd be happy.

Stuffins,
Anyone that revels in someone's misery is not happy with their own life. School yard bullies, Dallas Cowboy Haters, Yankee Haters, and ND Haters are all cut from the same cloth. They generally don't have the capacity to be truly happy unless someone else is sad. Their hatred of successful organizations has little to do with anything but their own pathetic lack of self esteem. But that isn't even true happiness, it is just some kind of sick feeling of faux accomplishment. These people can not be talked to or reasoned with, so there is no point in trying to heal this psychosis.
Love for the underdog is something that binds those of us in the Musketeer community. As a lifelong fan since my Dad dragged me into Schmidt for the first time when I was 3, underdog was the only thing I knew. Now, Xavier's Basketball program has exceeded any expectation that I could have ever dreamed of. I used to hope to make it to the Tournament, now I get nervous that some underdog will knock us off in the first round. I believe that with the direction X is going, we have a legitimate shot at a National Title. Sooner rather than later.
Bottom line is this, these are two programs going in two different directions. I hope ND can turn it around, but if they don't, it doesn't make feel any better.

Not sure exactly how ND football qualifies as an "underdog".
My dislike of ND football is in direct proportion to how overbearing and arrogant many (not all, certainly) of its fans are.

My favorite line about Notre Dame-an ND grad will pick his nose just to show off his class ring
