Please read this Mclean

You are a great player with great athletic skills. With your ability you will be able to either win or loose games for XU. At one point..probably in the near future..you will be at the free throw line and the game will be decided on whether or not you will make your free throws. You are going to have to change your form for shooting...it is horrible..totally incorrect! It is obvious to any lover of the game. What you are doing when you are at the line is bending your knees then standing straight up then stopping for a second...then shooting the ball. This means you are shooting the ball with only your upper body. If you watch redford, holloway, or any other good free throw shooter, you need to bend your knees then stand up and release the ball all in one motion which uses your entire body. Can someone tell me why you haven't changed or why the coaches have not worked on a proper free throw shooting motion for Mclean???

Yep, if there's any place that players go for technical advice on shooting form, it's this board!

And I'm sure the coaches haven't worked with him at all, either. Our staff is notorious for not working with their players in an attempt to better their skills.

Hey Dad .. you need to hire out as the nation's foremost free throw shooting coach.
I would love to see you shoot ten free throws, with each on you make pockets you $5. and every one you miss costs you $50. That way, you would have some "pressure" like "the game being on the line."
No checks, cash only.
Lets see now, bend you kness, come up in one motion, release the ball and clunk ... dammit, there goes another $50.

Actually I can shoot free throws better than Mclean...I shoot about 60 percent and I don't even play consistently. In fact, one time I was at a Harlem Globtrooter game and during halftime they called me down to the court in a shooting contest against the clock. I had 30 seconds to make a layup, free throw, 3 pointer, and half court shot with Bill Cunningham retriving the balls for me. I made my layup on the first attempt. The free throw i made on the second try. The three pointer I made on my first try and I had time to get in two attempts at half court shot which i missed. I won a 70 dollar gift certificate to Dicks. And for your comment about under pressure...i actually perform better under pressure so I am sure if the game was on the line i would be more of a 90 percent free throw shooter. Next time, please don't insult the poster of post when Mclean and the coaches should be blamed for his poor free throw shooting and technique!!!

Your arrogance never ceases to amaze me.

You made a layup, an FT on the 2nd try, and a 3-ptr.???? Wow, you must be some kind of Jordan-like superstar!

Or just an arrogant old fart.

Not arrogance just defending myself from insults. I will take you on any day in a free throw shooting contest!!

Of course, you're arrogant. Shockingly so, for that matter.

Let's say you beat me in an FT contest. So what? I repeat, so what? I'm not the one (1) telling McLean and the coaching staff what they should be doing better/differently re his FT shooting, or (2) saying I could do better.

My $$$'s would be on McLean to whoop your arse in a FT shooting contest. He stands in front of 10,000 shooting his. You hide behind a messageboard and take shots. Wouldn't be close.

Of course it doesn't matter if i beat you in a free throw contest..i was just defending myself from the insult. What does matter is how Mclean shoots free throws so focus on Mclean...not me. Now the reason for the post is that it is obvious Mclean has incorrect form...if you can't tell Mr. Neutral then you don't know much about basketball. Second, since there is someting wrong with his form shouldn't he be taught proper form? Of course. So why hasn't he...I don't know but if he is not taught proper form this will be just as bad as Matta not teaching Sato how to jump off of one foot..maybe even worse! It is a very simple fix...what I would do as coach is have Mclean spend 15 a day at the end of practice with Redford and have him teach him proper form....

And exactly where are you coaching now, sir? And, please, don't say something stupid like an 8th grade team, or you used to be an HS assistant.
