Sonoma, as Metallica famously chanted: sad but true. I respect the integrity of this board too much to post an embellished tale. It stung but kinda saw it coming and quickly yanked my arm away. I have a couple other cool memories from other Shootouts, but will save ‘em for next year.
As for tomorrow, we should be able to score fairly well from the interior. Hoping Sean has us wired to defend the arc.

X-lucidity, great peripheral vision & situational awareness! Hope our Muskies shown these desirable qualities vs. UC. I wish I knew you prior to the numerous economic disruptions over the last 50 years!

HAHA, I forgot that one. I watched practice that week, and Skip came up to me to talk which he did when I was sitting with Perry and the guy from the Post who would seem to plagiarize Perry's articles. As he was going back out to resume practice, with that wry smile of his said "Now ED you are not going to tell everyone on the board that we are practicing zone are you? My response was Skip I want a win more than a scoop. I said I might be tempted on game day just before the start of the game to post for fans to watch for something they would not expect from a Prosser squad. He went off laughing saying he would be watching. Of all the coaches SKip gave fans the best access and was open to giving inside information and a little fun banter with those he trusted.Lead Guitar wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 4:11 pmA number of my XU/UC memories go way back including Steve Thomas scoring 29 and 45 on the vaunted UC defense two years in a row. One was against Mr. Defense, Tony Yates. Unfortunately we lost both games. George Krajack implemented the Cobra offense as Bob Quick destroyed UC and John Howard. I believe John Zeides actually hit the jumper to beat them. And how can we forget Joe Pangrazzio picking up a crutch from a fan and throwing it.
By the way, someone in another topic mentioned possibly adding some zone for tomorrow’s game. The year we beat KM and the other four all Americans, we used a 1-3-1 zone. UC acted as if they had never seen one before. I think it was Logan and Satterfeld just kept passing the ball back and forth out front! (I am not suggesting a zone, for our man D should be able to handle them, but as we have found out in the past, it is always someone least expected (Dee Davis or Joe Stifford (sp?) that steps up out of character or the norm that has the big impact.)
We definitely need this road win. Go X!
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I like the nice Half time lead. Give us 20 more minutes of the same for the W

X must have thought the game was in hand but is only up 9 now as UC peels away 8 points. The crowd is back in the game. Time to answer X

Kyky comes in the game misses a 3 and then lets a straight line drive to the basket.

Defense has switched sides and now playing for UC. Sean needs to get this turned around.

Re: Shootout game thread and then some
Wow!!! Still collecting my thoughts. First, great first half the best X has looked all year in my opinion. I knew UC could not play as bad as they did in the first half & would make a run and yes they confirmed my worst thoughts. Secondly, as a fan when KYKy and Hunter threw up those 3's at that point I almost swallowed my cigar. Thirdly, when my fellow Connecticut Nutmeger fouled a 3 pt shooter it was heart attack time. (big time frosh mistake) Claude will be a X great but what a stupid play!!! Now that the small stuff is done with let me comment on the game. UC would not quit, you have to give them credit. X answered a number of times but we could not put them away. I think UC shot over 60% in the second half. We answered the bell and most players played well despite being a little sloppy with the ball in the second half. We hung on for the W and that is what counts. Thank God we have a really good foul shooter who can handle the ball as well.

Wow terrible second half. Love to beat the Bearcats but hard to watch . Way to many threes attempts by us. We need to learn to come hard to the ball on offense. Too many times we pick up the dribble and don't run hard to the passes. We also foul with our stomachs a crazy amount of times. Don't know how many 3 point plays we give up on soft body fouls. We didn't move enough on offense. Tandy has cement feet. Can't move on defense. All that said we won. LOL. Go X

Re: Shootout game thread and then some
Just heard a post game interview from Wes Miller. He said they intentionally called. TO knowing they were out. They thought they would have a better chance at a long shot off an inbounds pass than a scramble off a rebound of a missed ft. [Dodgeball the movie reference)....that's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see how that works out for them.
