Portal
Is anyone else getting a little nervous about next year? I would guess the main reasons for transferring are #1 playing time, #2 N. I. L. money, #3coaching staff #4 returning team losing everyone. As far as I know we don't pay N. I. L. money. I know if you haven't recruited a player before it takes a little time to get the recruits to know the school and staff. We are very thin everywhere. I am not sure how long the the Transfer portal lasts? I don't pretend to know how quickly the portal thing lasts but it would be nice to pick up a couple guys in the next week or so. Get some Dudes guys.LOL

Re: Portal
Schools do not pay NIL money. The most that they can do is to act as an “agent” to put donors and student-athletes in contact with each other. X does have that set up and there are donors that are actively seeking to support the program and the players. They obviously don’t have the kind of financial support that the big state schools have, but they do have enough to ensure that players will be adequately taken care of. There are currently about 1200 players that have gotten into the “portal”. There really is no end date by which plays must sign with another school. Maybe the beginning of the fall semester? There is an end date by which players must enter the transfer portal, I believe it’s around mid April but do not quote me on that date.
No reason to get nervous yet, Xavier is talking with lots of players and players are kicking the tires on lots of schools, including X. I’m sure that some are looking to see where they can get the most money and will go wherever that is. Most of the players in the portal right now are players from lower level programs, or were seldom used backups at major level schools. They are most likely looking for playing time or exposure. Some of the best players are looking to see how they might do in the draft before they decide on anything. Others are visiting schools after talking with coaches. We still don’t know what Nunge, Free, and Hunter are going to do next year. Miller might know, but we don’t, we can only speculate. What they decide to do will have a major effect on what X does. There are a lot of what if’s right now, but no reason to worry.

Re: Portal
The portal is open for 60 days after championship game so that is June 4. Could be a lot more transfers and graduate entering

Re: Portal
Oops my error - it is a 60 day window to enter portal but it starts after Selection Sunday so that means May 15 to enter
Last year there were 1649 entries. With there being 358 Division 1 schools that means there are 4.6 possible transfers per school. A worthless metric. It may show that a number of potential transfers will not find a new school.I wonder how many transfers who do not find a new school end up losing their scholarship?

I have no real knowledge of that, but it would surprise me if there were not some that did. I do know that there was a Xavier player doing a local car commercial here in the Cincinnati area this past winter, and I’m sure that he was compensated for that. I don’t remember seeing any information regarding any Xavier players signing NIL deals, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t. These are private contracts between parties and there is nothing anywhere that says it has to be made public.Kevin Reilly wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 9:10 pmKyzrex do any of our current players receive money now? Re: Portal
I believe the number last year was somewhere around 500-600 players that were left out in the cold after all the dust settled. Remember, they gave everyone an extra year of eligibility, but they didn’t increase the scholarship limit, and they still had hundreds of freshman coming in. One effect of all of this is that some high schoolers are going to get left out of getting a scholarship. Many coaches are going to make it a practice to keep scholarships available for transfers now, and won’t have as many available for high schoolers. It’s also going to affect Junior College players, for the same reason. In fact, it’s been speculated by many people that the transfer portal may be the death of Junior College BB in the long term. I’m thinking that the same may be true for prep schools. Many college coaches will prioritize bringing in transfers that already have D1 college experience over bringing in unproven freshman or JC transfers. That means less scholarships available for those lacking D1 experience. Of course, the best players will always find a home, but there are thousands of other players who have college eligibility that will be fighting over the remaining scholarships. Not all of them are going to find a home, and we might see kids jumping pretty quickly when they are offered one.Duke wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 2:35 amOops my error - it is a 60 day window to enter portal but it starts after Selection Sunday so that means May 15 to enter

Re: Portal
I could make the reverse argument. Many sophomore to senior college players have a known ceiling based on the playing time they earned and programs might be more willing to take a chance on a high schooler or JC. I don't have inside knowledge on the 4 XU players that entered the portal but I would surmise that it was more of the coach's decision than the player's.kyzrex wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 6:53 amI believe the number last year was somewhere around 500-600 players that were left out in the cold after all the dust settled. Re: Portal
RunningMan...... I hope you are wrong about the coach decision involving the players going into the portal. It might be true but that would suck . We are losing like 9 players at least already. If we bring in 9 new players next year you have to figure at least half of them won't play much. We have Claude and Hunter probably starting and Craft looks to get a lot more minutes. That doesn't leave a lot of minutes for 9 new players. I wonder if this is the new college scene. With all these transfers a lot of freshman will not get the chance to develop physically and get playing time. Unless you come into college looking like Jones or Claude you may sit a lot. It's almost like Duke and Kentucky with all their one and dones. A brand new team every year.

Re: Portal
I think SM, like most coaches I presume, painted a realistic picture regarding the prospects of playing time. I would think any player would want that, especially since the portal allows immediate eligibility for the most part. When you go to a high major like X, you don't go there to ride the pine. I don't believe SM told any of them their schollys was being revoked. X isn't UNLV East for God's sake.Kevin Reilly wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 12:48 pmRunningMan......
