Re: dePAUL GAME THREAD
I think Swain is very overrated as a defensive player. I think he gets pulled for letting his guy blow by him as much as not blocking out.

Not taking a position on Hunter vs Freemantle on overall D and other match-ups. That said, Benson is 6’8”, listed at 235 lbs. (I suspect he is in the 250-260 range) and is is a real body banger, with few other moves. Early in the game we watched as Benson would just seek to bang and back down Hunter, who presents more bulk than Freemantle. Better to keep Zach out of harms way as much as practible and additionally avoid picking up an early cheap foul or two.Kevin Reilly wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 7:58 pmMiller does have a quick hook. Not for everyone but for guys not playing defense. Not sure I agree that Hunter is a better option than Freemantle even for defense. Last year Miller showed little if any patience with Ousmane, Nzeh. Ducharme, Craft, and Ciani. No surprise they all left. Oh yeah Nemeiksa too.

He gave up on Lazar, Craft, Ciani, Green, and even Gytis. All we heard is Swain put on 30 lbs and is ballin out. Not to mention the undersized Maddox and Foster we was so excited about. Good luck guarding Dixon with a team that is undersized and can’t box out.

something up with Green - it's not just Miller "giving up on him". there's more to it than that. if you think any of those other names had a chance to be impactful BE players then you didn't watch last season. Craft is the only one I would have hoped would have stayed but i'm guessing he would struggle to guard BE G/F's, but in the MAC he can easily do that. Lazar can't even start for Mack at C of C. Ciani and Gytis just weren't BE dudes.skyhops wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 3:21 amHe gave up on Lazar, Craft, Ciani, Green, and even Gytis. All we heard is Swain put on 30 lbs and is ballin out. Ciani, Abu, and Gytis are all better BE players then Hughley, Maddox, and Foster. Greens minutes went to Maddox which is main reason why he is sitting out. Greens minutes went is undersized but a better shooter then Maddox.

Re: dePAUL GAME THREAD
with the injury to Traore, the only dude above that would have helped us is Abu. the other two just are NOT BE caliber players. you're looking at what Ciani is doing in the MVC against mediocre competition thinking he would do that for us. he wouldn't. It also happens to be the same conference where we got some transfers that you seem to think aren't cut out to play in the BE, yet Ciani, because he's putting up some numbers there, you think he'd be fine here. you can't have it both ways on that one. I would have loved if Abu and Craft stayed. I think they both could have helped. Craft went where he could start, play meaningful minutes in a league that is a tier and a half below the BE. it just is. the MAC ain't good. but both of them, with the injuries we've had, even though most are "bigs" would have fit in and played more and most likely helped us.

Craft was rated higher than Claude and has size and can shoot so I agree. Ciani and Lazar are young should have been developed. Traore was a big loss but you can’t rely on the Free, Hunter, and Hughley. Foster and Maddox were major Al swing and misses. I’ve watched Gytis and Abu both drop 27 this year, we could use that.
