Miller

Postby Kevin Reilly » Sun Mar 23, 2025 3:10 pm

Miller is rumored to be one of Texas's targets. If he goes Do we have any chance with Pat Kelsey. I for one would hate to lose Miller. I am his biggest backer. But if there are rumors than we might lose him. Amir Abdur Rahim took Kennesaw State to the tournament two years ago and had 25 wins with South Florida this year. Drew Valentine is young ( 33 ) and has already won titles in the Missouri valley and Atlantic 10 from Loyola Chicago and Bryce Drew has averaged 23.5 wins the last four years at Grand Canyon. I would not like Mack back. Too much baggage.

Kevin, just like Mack did in his last X season, did Miller check out mentally before/during the Illinois game? Great suggestion re Luke Murray BTW.

Gymn From Deli I don't think Miller checked out in the Illinois game. Was he distracted who knows? Probably . I think it was N.I.L. money that caused him to leave. Couldn't pay for the guys he wanted.

We will see how much the BE is a draw for coaches. We will also see if Hanycz and Christopher are dedicated to continuing to support the #1 draw for Xavier.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Well here goes with my Miller departure. I think Miller was frustrated by his inability to land big time recruits. If you could put a honest opinion of Xavier's talent level I would think that our roster was probably in the 45th to 60th roster in talent the last two years. That is why we were a fringe tournament team. Miller is not a good coach. Miller is a excellent coach. With our resources and N.I. L. money the recruiting wasn't going to get much better. Sean Miller is 56 years old and has 487 wins. Sean can coach. I think the opportunity to go to a school with big N.I.L fund was to good to pass up. I believe in two years Texas will have a roster that has top 10 talent. If you look at the last 16 teams left in the tournament 7 are from the SEC and ALL are from programs with big N.I.L. money. There are no small schools left. I think Miller didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. At Arizona Miller had the number three recruiting class in the whole country five different times. He also had the number six recruiting class twice plus a #7 class and a #10 class. I still am outraged he left but he's not getting any younger . He gone

KR,

I agree with the NIL part. Even though X's is competitive, Texas can offer top 5 money. I also think he is jus outside the elite tier.

I don't subscribe to the theory of just realizing he couldn't get the big-name recruits part. 90% go to about 15 of the same schools. Despite that, since 2009, X has had about 8 guys go the League (though the majority spent most time in the G League), with two current ones getting decent to starter minutes in Colby Jones & Marshall.

In the same period, X has gotten (by memory): Dez Wells (50s), Crawford via transfer (top 50), Lavender via transfer (top 40), Bluiett(#50s), Martin (#70s) Marshall (#60s) Green (#50s), Christon (high #30s to #50s, depending on the rating service), and others. He struck out on a lot of players last year, and he didn't have time to recruit in 22-23. The Steele hangover had a lot to do with it. However, our incoming recruits - though probably gone, were rated in the #50s and #90s.

Despite the long drought from the Tourney during the Steele years, over the last two decades, X has had 19 Tourney wins, which is still in the top 30. Pretty damn impressive.

Edit: Lavendar was a McDonald's AA, so his rating had to be in the #20s or lower.
