Pete Gillen

Pete is just as entertaining as an analyst as he was as a coach. Channel 12 interviewed him tonight for their 6 PM news. Said he loved the Cintas Center, calling it the Taj Mahal, said when he coached Xavier they played in a meat locker. When asked about Byron Larkin, said Byron was a "pathological shooter", even stealing the ball from his own teammates to shoot.

Still king of the cliche, and his favorite word is still "warrior". Loved every minute of tonight's game with him calling it.

He was entertaining on the sidelines at half, before and after the game.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I'll second that Payday. Just think if you will how the sstate of Xavier basketball changed with Staak, then Pte, and Skip through today. Thank heaven Pete got out of coaching. He was looking pretty bad in his last days at UVA.

I find it interesting that on the ud board they feel that Gillen was a joke as an announcer, biased, opinionated, and in general very bad! Once again....typical outlook of the cryers!

What? Gillen had lots of good things to say about UD, its players and its coach. If fact he said good and bad (critical) things about both teams during the game.

I didn't think that Pete was biased one way or the other, and, yes, he said quite a few complimentary things about UD and its history.

But it's hard to gush about a team that loses by 26, I have to say.

That's funny that UD folks are complaining. If anything, I felt like Gillen was over-compensating so that he couldn't be accused of being biased towards XU. He practically said that both programs are at about the same level in college basketball. I have nothing against UD, and that may have been true at some point in history (indeed, UD has been far ahead of XU at times) but that's just not remotely accurate in recent history. One year ... er, 17 games ... doesn't change that.

I agree with LA Muskie. It sounded like Gillen was more flattering about Dayton than he needed to be, just to be fair. At one point, he was talking about Larkin being the first to have his jersey retired and then about Hill being a lottery pick (and how he got to coach them) and then he stops and says, "Well, Dayton's had a lot of great players to the NBA, too, so they're both two great programs."

Evidently you people have not read the latest revision of the Preamble
