BJ Raymond....

Postby TheTruth » Sat Mar 15, 2008 12:10 pm

will have a big tourney (and X needs him to).

I love the fact that he has no memory of his previous shot, miss or make, and just keeps shooting. I know he went 0-for last night but this guy is like a machine when he shoots threes, same form with a high quick release every time. I really believe he will get on track and be a huge difference for X in the tourney.

Also, did anyone else noticed in the pre-game huddle in the tunnel that it wasn’t Stan or either of the other seniors in the middle of the team getting people pumped up but rather it was BJ. Also, before the second half (and this isn’t the first time this has happened) the starting 5 was accompanied by BJ talking this team up. I love the leadership and the desire he has to win.

I think BJ is very important to this team’s success and I can’t wait to see him tear it up next weekend!!!

I disagree with Sean's changing of BJ's role this late in the season. He had 22 against Richmond then only played 11 minutes against Dayton. I know he likes Dante's defense better, but I don't think Dante has earned the spot (to move ahead of BJ in the rotation) Plus, you don't want to diminish BJ's confidence at this stage.

BJ had four fouls in those 11 mins.

IMO, BJ needs to take the ball to the basket. He is good at penetrating to about 10 feet and taking a shot. This would also give him more respect from his man when he sets up for his 3 ball.

I agree that his defense is dictating his minutes, but he also needs to contribute offensively for us to do well.

Here's hoping he comes up large next week :!:

4 fouls against Dayton plus I believe he was getting schooled by Marcus Johnson. He can be a liability if he is not shooting well because he is somewhat one dimensional. Let's hope he can find his shot in the tourney. What makes me nervous is the lake of "go to guy" for the tournament. You need someone to get hot and drop 20 plus aka Chalmers.

Skyhops we are not playing in the tourney until next week and maybe we will see that player. I'd like to see a different player or players every game to get hot, inside and outside. Why be preditable.

The key is Drew playing like we know he is capable of playing and the D oming every night.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

BJ needs to be on next week, and Drew needs to drive more.
But the most important is guard recognition of players being open and passing the ball without their usual hestiation. Finally, X needs the unforced turnover to stop. Stan just throwing the ball in space to no one. For God's sake please drive or play with a purpose.

Maybe he had the flu, respiratory infection, or his girlfriend just delivered a baby. I know there had to be some legitimate reason that he was off his game. Not that he would ever use it as an excuse for his poor performance like some other player in the league. BJ will be back next week raining three's on X's way to the SWEET 16.

bj is our best deep shooter when he's on, and our best mid-range shooter whenever he takes a mid-range j (which isn't nearly often enough). his strong frame allows him to keep defenders on his side when he drives and he's usually money when he pulls up. he also isn't too bad on the block, but he's only been there a few times this year. hopefully in the NC2A tourney he'll take a step toward being the player we'll need him to be next year, incorporating all those facets of his game.

BJ's biggest problem is that he is currently too easy to guard. His shots are almost always 3 pointers immediately after the catch, and he only shoots from several places on the floor. Other conference teams (St. Joe's in particular) know where he likes to shoot from and therefore rarely leave him open on the catch unless the defense really gets broken down or if X is in transition.
