Viewings for Chicago-area alums

I'm biding my time in the parking lot of the Desert Diamond casino just south of Tucson from which I will watch the game.

How about enjoying it for what it is instead of going in with the attitude of "Well they are going to lose" so forget. Chances are they will at some point. The fun is in the adrenaline of the moment. Most people go gambling for sheer entertainment knowing eventually they will lose.

If anyone should be fired up when they lose it is the players. They are the ones who spent all their high school time working so hard to get a scholarship and continuing to work hard to get to this point. You want to talk about who has the investment here.

Would it not be great if the next time you went out to play golf or tennis there were a bunch of people cheering you on to beat your fellow buddies / collegues etc...


How many fans sit on the sidelines every year and maybe their team makes the Big Dance 1 out of every ten years. Are they not just as emotionally invested as yourself.

Enjoy what we have - it may not be there tommorrow. (ex. UC)

Alamo, if you knew my rooting habits at all, you know that "sitting on the sidelines" is not one of them. I've been living and dying with Xavier basketball for 40 years now-in person, on the radio, on TV, on the Net and in the newspapers.

Not only did we go to every friggin' home game in my 4 years at X-when we NEVER had even a .500 season, and almost always lost to big name teams-but for years after that, I would make the trip to Cincy at least once a year, catch every game in Chicago, and go to games in Indy, etc., and we lost damn near every one of those game. But I went, and I was one of the few who did, certainly one of the few from Chicago.

I still live and die with every possession of every game, and would be ecstatic if X could make a run in this (or any) tourney. That doesn't mean I can always travel to Washington D.C., Tampa or some other location to catch our games.

As to the A-10 tourneys, I have to admit that our performance has not inspired me to hit the road most years. So, if that makes me a bad fan, so be it.

I was president of the Chicago alumni club for 5 years, and did my best to get people fired up for game viewings, golf outings, and other Xavier functions. I'm still doing that in an unofficial capacity.

Believe me, I've given Xavier basketball a TON of my time and emotion over the years, probably more than I should have.

Hey I am just saying enjoy the momemt win or lose.

Unfortunately I have had multiple friends say we'll see how they do in DC and then maybe I will see about Phoenix. The team could use the support this weekend. It is a lot of easier to get to DC from Cincy than Phoenix.

And I agree it is a shame that more people are not fired up and Xavier should be able to Charter multiple Buses to DC at a reasonable cost not a plane at a ridiculus cost - but due to past experience X admin gets stuck holding the bag. I also understand that it is Easter weekend with families.

Recalling how empty March Madness when X isn't in the tournament, I'm enjoying our team's attention, pub, etc., very much.

I'll enjoy it more if they win!
