Burrell under pressure

The three games were BYU, OSU, and UGA. He was huge against the Zags (22 i think), and he was okay against Purdue offensively. But the past 4 years I have always thought the best way to beat X is to hope Stan makes his first crazy shot, then he throws up bad shots the whole game. This year, however, he hasn't been doing that and that is the only complaint I've ever had against Burrell.

this is a moroinic post, one of the dumbest i've seen in my short muskimadness time. Have u see x play this year, stan IS the identity of this team, the heart and soul, the defensive spine and emotional leader...he makes ft's and is the best on ball defender in america.

It stinks to go back to last years Ohio State game as a example, X folded under pressure at the end...and osu hit some freak shots...but is stan really the guy u would pick out as not being able to handle the pressure, it wasn't him that missed 2 ft to advance

Stanley is a treasure and instead of appreciating him for the next few weeks u offer up this crap...

Get behind our boys, stan is clutch it just doesn't always show up in the boxscore, anyone that has watched stan play a single game knows he has become a selfless teamate, lockdown defender and millers defensive brain child

Lets just continue to enjoy Stans unique defensive tenacity and firey brand of basketball

This teams sucess is hitched to their defense and Stan is clearly the team MVP

I think many people are missing my point. I know that Stan is great defensively. My point is on the offensive end of Stans game. One field goal in three NCAA games is folding under pressure! I know Stan does alot of other good things for the team but I bet if someone looks up his shooting percentage for the last 3 NCAA tournment games it would be horrible.

I would think that if you're going to say his FG% for his last 3 NCAA games is horrible, YOU'D have looked it up before making that statement.

It's not the world's worst idea to actually have your facts before making an argument. Plus, my previous posts have contained that information, so now you're REALLY getting lazy.

Last year Stan was all about offense and that was pretty much the only thing he cared about. Late in the season though it became pretty apparent that we didn't need Stan to be our leading scorer every game with Drew, Doellman, and Josh able to carry the team scoring wise at the end of the season. Stan got really frustrated at the end of the season and you could tell he wasn't as effective of a player, everyone who follows Xavier basketball could have told you Stan would do poorly scoring wise in the NCAA tournament last year. Over the summer though he committed himself to doing whatever he could to help the team win games, and he realized it wasn't by throwing up bad shots to score 20 points every game. Now Stan takes much better shots and doesn't score as much, but he doesn't make me pull my hair out because he is taking 5 turn around fade jumpers a game like he might have done in the past. In this NCAA tournament which is the only one that matters right now Stan is doing the same things on offense he has all year which is helping us as a team continue to do what we've done all year, and that is WIN.

If you what to call Stan's play folding under pressure then let's have 4 more games of that folding. 3-6 from the field in the last game was not too bad.

With all due respect Mr. Miller, this is one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen. First of all, if Burrell holds the other best scorer to 5-6 points under their average, that's as good as him scoring that amount. He has done this all year. His shots aren't falling this year as much because he does guard their best player and he doesn't have the legs as much to shoot as defense takes more out of you. Thank God he isn't shooting as much then. Also, who cares about what happened vs OSU with Burrell's numbers-he's a different player as your son is a different coach. Your son didn't fold in the last 2 minutes vs Purdue just as Burrell did his part. I would love Burrell to score 20 but not if it means shooting a bunch of bad shots to get there-not when you have Anderson, Raymond, and others to take the scoring pressure.

Millers Dad I understand your point and have thought the exact same thing. It's not about career numbers or season overall performance but rather how do you perform in a single elimination, one-and-done situation. Stan has now played in 4 NCAA games in the last two years. In those 4 games he has averaged 35 min/game and gone 4 of 20 from the field (I believe all 4 were layups) and 9 of 17 from the line. The last game alone the team shoots 84% from the line while SB shoots 62%.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't care what his individual line looks like as long as we win. But with that said the potential problem is that one of our next opponents exploits SB's offensive deficiencies. As an example, if Stan has gone 0 for 16 (exclude the layups) over the last 4 games why guard him on the perimeter? You're basically playing 5 on 4. When your shooting guard is reluctant to shoot (averaged 4 a game) and/or is shooting poorly then play off him until he can prove otherwise.

His FT shooting is another issue. He has lost all confidence in his shot and that includes FT's and late in a close game I think he would be one of the targets to foul.

Obviously he brings alot to the table at the other end of the court and I sincerely hope that he proves me wrong (re: offense) over the next 4 games.
